God Is Not a Man

God Is Not a Man

Numbers 23:19

God is not a man,  that He should lie,
Nor a son  of man,  that He should repent;
Has He said,  and will He not do it?
Or has He spoken,  and will He not make it good?

When people promise something  or claim something,  they might be lying  in order to deceive  and gain some advantage.     Or,  in their human weakness,  they might be unable  to keep a promise they wanted  to keep.     In our humanity,  it is possible that we over state something  and later wish  that we would have had more common sense.    Bragging  can get us  in trouble.

But God is totally different.     Our LORD  is holy  and totally  without sin.     He never has sinned  and He never will sin.     Since God is the Almighty LORD  of all,  nothing is impossible  for Him.     Instead,  all things are possible  for Him.     When He makes a promise,  we can be sure  that He will keep  that promise  down to the smallest detail.

God does not try  to deceive us  with lies  in order to take advantage of us  in our weaknesses.     When God’s word is given,  we can depend  on it.     Even the devil knows that  and,  therefore,  tries to twist  that truth  in order to ruin  our faith  in God’s trustworthiness.

So,  what are some  of the promises  of God  that we can depend on today?

John 3:15-16   +++   Whoever believes  may in Him  have eternal life.    For God so loved the world,  that He gave  His only begotten Son,  what whoever believes  in Him  should not perish,  but have eternal life.

Mark 16:16  +++   He who has believed  and has been baptized  shall be saved;  but he who has disbelieved  shall be condemned.

Malachi 3:7  +++   “From the days  of your fathers  you have turned aside  from My statutes,  and have not kept them.    Return to Me,  and I will return to you,”  says the Lord of hosts.

Matthew 11:28-29  +++   Come to Me,  all who are weary  and heavy laden,  and I will give you rest.    Take My yoke  upon you,  and learn from Me,  for I am gentle  and humble  in heart;  and you shall find rest  for your souls.

Matthew 5:6  +++   Blessed are those  who hunger and thirst  for righteousness,  for they shall be satisfied.

John 6:37  +++  All that the Father gives Me  shall come  to Me;  and the one who comes to Me  I will certainly not  cast out.

1 Peter 5:5-6  +++   God is opposed  to the proud,  but gives grace  to the humble.     Humble yourselves,  therefore,  under the mighty hand  of God,  that He may exalt you  at the proper time.

Matthew 5:19  +++   Whoever then annuls one  of the least  of these commandments,  and so teaches others,  shall be called least  in the kingdom  of heaven;  but whoever keeps  and teaches them,  he shall be called great  in the kingdom  of heaven.

Psalm 34:7  +++   The angel  of the LORD  encamps around those  who fear Him  and rescues them.

Matthew 10:32-33  +++   Everyone therefore  who shall confess Me  before men,  I will also confess him  before My Father  who is in heaven.    But whoever  shall deny Me  before men,  I will also deny him before My Father  who is in heaven.

Galatians 6:9  +++   And let us not lose heart  in doing good,  for in due time  we shall reap  if we do not grow weary.

2 Peter 2:9  +++  The Lord knows how  to rescue the godly  from temptation,  and to keep the unrighteous  under punishment  for the day  of judgment.

This list could go on and on.     The God of gods  and LORD of lords  —  the One  with whom it is impossible to lie  —  gives us promises  of eternal salvation,  rescue,  comfort,  resurrection,  a wonderful inheritance in heaven,  rest,  peace,  refuge,  strength,  wisdom,  spiritual growth,  future glory,  total forgiveness,  close fellowship,  and much more.

All this  and more than any human can imagine  are promised  by the LORD,  who cannot lie.     Our salvation  by faith  in Jesus Christ  is the result  of God keeping  many promises made  from the beginning of time  throughout the Old Testament.     Keeping the tiniest details  of those promises  proves the love  and power  of the LORD.

Is there anything holding us back  from trusting God  with our whole lives?     Are we still allowing Satan  to rob us  of our faith  and hope  with his lies?

We need  to go to God’s word  in the Bible  and give ourselves a chance  to see  and remember  what God is really like.     Then we will say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  blessed be Your name  because Your love  and faithfulness  are true  and so dependable.     Help us to live  in Your word.”
