Passed Out of Death into Life
In John 5:24, Jesus gives us a promise of great comfort. He says,
Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
When Jesus says, “Truly, truly”, He is saying there is to be absolutely no doubt about it. Everyone who listens to God’s gospel throughout the Bible and believes that Jesus really is the promised Savior, who will thoroughly wash away all our sins, will be granted eternal life the moment they believe.
All who believe and trust the promises of God will not come into judgment. We are still sinners, but because of our faith, God will not judge us as sinners. When we die we will surely go straight to heaven and do not have to face any sort of judgment or condemnation for our sins.
When Jesus says we have “passed out of death into life”, that is an all-encompassing promise we can trust. That passing “out of death into life” includes passing out of the spiritual death that grips us in our lives here on earth. The spiritual death that people experience here on earth includes unbelief, sinful habits, immorality, hatefulness, and everything like that.
When by faith we pass out of that spiritual death, we believe God’s gospel, live according to His truth and love, and find good reason to praise the Lord for all that He does. That spiritual life here on earth will be ours until we enter eternal life at the end of our earthly life.
It truly is a wonderful thing to hear, read, and study God’s word, and to believe it. Trusting in our Lord’s love and almighty power, we don’t have to fear any sort of judgment. Only then can we have the peace and rest that Jesus gives as we trust and obey Him.
Those who refuse to believe and trust will come under the judgment of condemnation because of their own stubborn refusal. That is an awfully sad thing. There is no logical reasoning for refusing the free gift of salvation. The Almighty has said in many passages that there is no way for anyone to earn this salvation. Because Jesus has paid the full price of our salvation and He is the only one able and worthy of making that payment, we must honor His gift. We don’t have any other choice — if we want eternal life in heaven.
As we daily listen to our Lord’s word and believe all His promises, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord, Your love is so beautiful and faithful. Thank You for faithfully pursuing us unto eternal salvation.”
Love,
Margaret
