Send Out Your Light and Your Truth

Send Out Your Light and Your Truth

Psalm 43:3-4

O send out Your light  and Your truth,  let them  lead me;
Let them
  bring me  to Your holy hill,
And to Your dwelling places.
Then  I will go  to the the altar  of God,
To God  my exceeding joy;
And upon the lyre  I shall praise You,  O God,  my God.

If we try to figure out everything  in life  with our puny human reasonings,  we will most likely  be headed down  the wrong path  and feel confused.     And unfortunately,  there are times  when we are  on the wrong path,  but we’re positive  we’re on the right track — having no clue  about the trouble  we’re headed for.

It’s always good  to have dependable guidance  when dealing  with the people  in this world,  especially when interacting  with propaganda,  deceitfulness,  greed,  and ulterior motives.     That’s what the psalmist was talking about  when he prayed, “O send out Your light  and Your truthlet them  lead me;  let them  bring me  to Your holy hill…”

The psalmist realized  that he was dealing  with ungodly people  and really needed  to see things  the way God sees them.     He needed God’s light.     He also needed the strength  and courage  to live  in God’s truth,  so he prayed  that God would allow  the truth  to lead him  through his circumstances.

Only God’s light  and God’s truth  will lead us  to live  in a God-pleasing way  that will allow us  to live  in God’s grace,  peace,  and salvation.     It simply is not wise  to depend  on our sinful natures  to guide us  to heaven.      If we depend  on our own feelings  to guide us,  we will surely fall  into all sorts  of sin.     Actually,  depending on our own feelings  is nothing but pushing God out  of our lives.

How can we expect  to spend eternity  in heaven  if we push God  out of our lives now?    The psalmist realized  that pushing God out  of his life  was something he definitely did not want  to do.     That is why he says  that he will be able  to sing  to God  with exceeding joy  when he gets God’s light  and truth  to lead him  in the right way.

As we pray  for God’s light  and truth,  and allow them  to lead us  to our Lord  in heaven,  we will joyfully sing,  “Hallelujah!    My Lord,  we praise you  for all the glorious beauties  of Your truths  and ways.     Your righteousness  is radiantly delightful  and comforting.”
