Nothing Causes Them to Stumble

Nothing Causes Them to Stumble

There are many wonderful promises  throughout the Bible.     One that we all need  to really hold onto  is Psalm 119:165,

Those  who love Thy law  have great peace,
And nothing  causes them  to stumble.

The “law” the psalmist is talking about  is  not  the legalistic set of orders  for sacrifices  or the exacting orders  for keeping  the Old Testament festivals.     The “law” the psalmist loves  is the way  of truth  that is the way  of God.

That way  of truth  is the fact  that God has loved us  since the beginning of time  and has promised  to forgive all  of our sins  when we put our faith  in Jesus  as our Savior.     It is a “law”  because it is a sure promise  that never will be changed.

This “law” includes  what happens  when we come  into fellowship  with the LORD.     What happens  is that we see the absolute beauty  of God’s loving ways  —  all His goodness  and holiness  —  and we begin  to love God  for all the wonders  of His grace.

Jesus spoke  of this special “law”  when in Matthew 22:37,  He quoted Deuteronomy 6:5,

You shall love the LORD  your God  with all your heart,  and with all your soul,  and with all your mind.

Love cannot be forced.     In order  to be real  and truthful,  love for God is what sees  the awesome beauty  of His holiness,  power,  faithfulness,  salvation,  and love for us.     When we realize the eternal truthfulness  of all that,  we begin to love  because we know  the love of God  for us.     And so,  our love  for God  begins to exist  in our heart,  soul,  and mind.

It’s not because  of anything we have done.     It’s all because  of what God has done  for us  in Jesus Christ.

When this truth  —  this love  —  this way of God  —  becomes a part  of our life,  God is able  to lead us  through all our troubles  and temptations  in this life.     None of those troubles  and temptations  will cause us  to stumble,  or fall away  from our faith  in the love of God  and His salvation  in Jesus Christ.

In other words,  God protects us  when we love Him  and His way.     We will still face  all sorts  of troubles  and rejection  from unbelievers  as this world continues  to head  for Judgment Day,  but God will faithfully  and continually strengthen us  in our faith,  hope  and love.

For every time  God takes us  over another hump  on the road  to heaven,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord, we love You  for the faithfulness  of all Your promises.”

Love,
Margaret
