Our Citizenship Is in Heaven

Philippians 3:20-21

For our citizenship is  in heaven,  from which also  we eagerly wait  for a Savior,  the Lord Jesus Christ;  who will transform the body  of our humble state  into conformity  with the body  of His glory,  by the exertion  of the power  that He has   even to subject all things  to Himself.

We have very good reason  to strive  with our utmost  to live here  on earth as a child  of the King  should live.     As a bona fide child  of God Almighty,  we need to remember  that our stay here  on earth  is very short  in comparison  to all eternity.

We might not always feel  like a child  of God  when we are facing  all sorts  of temptations  and trials.     But,  Galatians 4:4-6 assures us  that that is exactly  what we are  by faith.     It says,

But when the fulness  of the time came,  God sent forth His Son,  born of a woman,  born under the Law,  in order that He might redeem those  who were under the Law,  that we might receive  the adoption  as sons.     And because you are sons,  God has sent forth  the Spirit of His Son  into our hearts,  crying, “Abba!    Father!”

It is because  the LORD God has adopted us  and set claim on us  as His children,  that we have automatically become citizens  of heaven right now.     Heaven is  our real home.     Whatever sort of dwelling  we have here  on earth  is only a temporary means of shelter.     It is totally worthless  in comparison  to our home  in heaven.

As children of God,  we wait eagerly  for Jesus to come,  according to His promise,  and transform these humble bodies  of ours  into “conformity  with the body  of His glory”.     There is no human tongue  that can describe  exactly what that will be.     Whatever we will be like  when God takes us up  to heaven,  it will all be performed  by the power  of Jesus Christ.     It will be awesome.

That is why  it is so vital  for us  to remain  in the true faith  through all our struggles here  on earth.     There is nothing  on earth  that is worth giving up  our heavenly citizenship for.

As we hold  onto God’s promises  by faith,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Abba!     Father!    Thank You  for making us  Your dear children.     Help us  to truly live  as children  of the King.”

Love,
Margaret
