Seek First…And All These Things Shall Be Added

Seek First… And All These Things Shall Be Added

We have so many longings  and desires.     We want  to feel complete  and whole.     But,  something is missing  in life  and there is that  awful emptiness inside.

We’ve tried to fill  that vast emptiness  with all sorts of activities,  friends,  profitable work on the job,  stuff,  stuff,  and more stuff.     But,  that empty hole  is never filled  or satisfied.     Something is definitely missing.     Something’s not right.     And life  is passing us by  — fast.

Since God created us  and knows our every thought,  fear,  feeling,  and longing  —  He knows exactly  what we are missing in life.     God knows  how we can finally be  at peace  and truly be fulfilled  in this life.

None of our efforts,  strivings,  or earnings  will ever make us  complete and whole.     It’s like one multi-millionaire said,  “The more money I make,  the more money  I need to make.”      Others strive with God;  constantly insisting  on wanting things their way  —  but,  Jesus gently instructs us  in Matthew 6:7-8,

And when you are praying,  do not use meaningless repetition,  as the Gentiles do,  for they suppose  that they will be heard  for their many words.    Therefore do not  be like them;  for your Father knows  what you needbefore  you ask Him.

So,  God does want us  to quietly trust  in His way  in order to receive  the richest blessings  to fill our needs  and longings.     Throwing a spiritual tantrum  shows we are not trusting  as we should.     Trust rests  in the truths  of God’s love  and good will  for all our needs.

Therefore,  Jesus shows us  what we should be doing  as our earthly needs loom  in front of us,  trying to claim  that God does not care  or know about our needs.     Jesus tenderly teaches us  in Matthew 6:32-34,

For all these things  the Gentiles eagerly seek;  for your heavenly Father knows  that you need  all these things.

But seek first  His kingdom  and His righteousness;  and all these things  shall be added  to you.     Therefore do not be anxious  for tomorrow;  for tomorrow  will care  for itself.     Each day  has enough trouble  of its own.

If our greatest desire  and longing  is to have God Almighty live  in our hearts  and that we be righteous,  just like our heavenly Father — then God will see our desire,  fulfill it  in love,  and provide  for all our earthly needs.     This is God’s promise.     He will always be  by our side  to strengthen  and lead us  through every trial.

As we rest  in God’s love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You  for providing  for our every need  and for nurturing us  in Your love.”
