As Far as the East Is from the West
The Lord likes to have us stretch our imagination as we try to grasp His awesome greatness. We have to live in a world full of sinners, so we not only see the sins of others, but we can get very burdened with the just judgments that are due to us for our very own sins.
When our sins weigh heavily on us, we need to look to the hope and love in God’s promises. God has a special love and compassion for all who feel badly about their sinful natures. God’s children have a deep respect for God’s holiness — and they truly want to live the way God wants His children to live.
As we want to live in a God-pleasing way, God does not want us to be guilt-ridden about our sins. God is glad when we realize our sinful condition and feel sorry about it. But, He does not want us to get depressed or hopeless about it.
Instead we are to look to our heavenly Father for forgiveness and trust His comforting promises. In Psalm 103:8-14 we can appreciate God’s love for us. It says,
The LORD is compassionate and gracious,
Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.
He will not always strive with us;
Nor will He keep His anger forever.
He has not dealt with us according to our sins,
Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
For high as the heavens are above the earth,
So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him.
As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
For He Himself knows our frame;
He is mindful that we are but dust.
What a wonderful promise! The east will never ever meet the west. When we lay the burden of our sins on the Lord, we will never ever have to account for them in eternity. When we respect and honor God as the LORD God Almighty in every aspect of our lives, without a doubt, He will gladly pardon and forgive all of our sins.
So, as we respect God for who He is — our Savior, Redeemer, Creator, Sustainer — let us trust His holy word and know for sure that our sins are totally gone forever. In God’s eyes, it is as if they never existed.
For this we need to bless and praise the LORD with our whole being as we joyfully live each day for Him. Surrounded by His love, we proclaim, “Hallelujah! Lord, thank You for loving us so compassionately that you forgive our every sin.”
Love,
Margaret
