I Count All Things to Be Loss
The apostle Paul had a huge change in his life when he finally realized the truth about how Jesus was the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. None of us have the power to fulfill the words we say regarding times in the distant future. We cannot even predict what will happen tomorrow. So, Jesus being the fulfillment of prophecy, is a glorious show of God’s power that we need to pay attention to.
Paul felt so blessed to know Jesus as his Savior that he spent the rest of his life preaching the gospel — even though he met great opposition and was often beaten, imprisoned, and whipped in an effort to shut him down. In spite of all that, Paul rejoiced and wrote in Philippians 3:8,
I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.
We cannot say we “know” Jesus because a friend or relative is a Christian. It is only when we spiritually realize Jesus is our Savior that we can personally know Him. We must know Him for ourselves. To know something about Jesus is not the same as knowing Him as our Friend and Redeemer.
All of God’s word reveals Jesus and shows us His divine and human natures. In the Bible we learn to know Jesus as our Prophet, Priest, and King. In other words:
- What Jesus prophesies comes true
- The sacrifice Jesus made pays for all our sins
- And, Jesus rules over all things because He is the King of kings
We need to meditate on everything the Bible says about Jesus so that we can begin to grasp the greatness of His being and love, which are beyond human words. If we ever honestly get to know Jesus, we will love Him. And when we love Him, just having Him live in our hearts will be worth so much more than whatever head knowledge and riches we might have.
The more we know about Jesus and let Him live in our hearts, the more we will want to know about Him. And as we surely have to continually go through various trials, and doubts, and pains of many sorts, Jesus will be there to strengthen and keep us, so that we can remain at peace in the midst of our troubles.
The better we get to know Jesus, the more we will realize that having Him in our hearts is worth so much more than anything else on earth.
As we meditate on His word and grow in His grace, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord, Your glory and greatness surpass everything we ever imagined. Certainly, all glory is to Your holy name.”
Love,
Margaret
