Perfect Peace

March 6, 2018

Perfect Peace

True peace is  a most wonderful thing  to have.     Isaiah 26:3-4 tells us  about the source  of the true peace  we can have.     He says,

The steadfast  of mind  Thou wilt keep  in perfect peace,
Because  he trusts  in Thee.
Trust  in the LORD forever,
For in GOD  the LORD,   we have an everlasting Rock.

The “steadfast of mind”   —   who are they?    Isaiah says  they are the ones  who consistently trust  in the LORD.     They aren’t wishy-washy  —  saying they trust God one moment  and then,  when there’s a problem  on the horizon,  they immediately doubt  that God will ever want  to take care  of their needs.

The “steadfast of mind”   hold onto their trust  in the LORD  because they have studied  His word  and realize  that it is eternal.     In other words,  they see  that promises and prophesies  were made  by the LORD and they were all kept  by the LORD  at just the right time.     It is fulfilled prophesies  that make a person really “see”  that God is almighty  —  He is trustworthy  —  He is faithful  —  and He has displayed His love  for us mightily  in Jesus Christ  since the beginning of creation.     Because He has the power  to fulfill prophecy  over thousands of years,  we can be assured  that He also has the power  to save us  and forgive our sins forever.

Isaiah points out God’s trustworthiness  by saying,  “For in GOD  the LORD,  we have an everlasting Rock.”     A rock is solid  and strong.     Often in biblical days,  huge rocks served  as a place of refuge.     King David often spoke  of God  as being his Rock,  Fortress,  and Refuge  as his enemies were seeking  to kill him.

We need  to take hold  of God,  our “everlasting Rock”,  by studying His word earnestly.     When we draw near  to God,  He will draw near  to us.     He has promised  and He can be trusted.

Do we want  to be “steadfast of mind”,  always trusting the LORD,  so that He can keep us  in “perfect peace”?     Then,  let us draw near  to the LORD,  so that He may draw near  to us.     When we do,  we will say,  “Hallelujah!      Lord, it is so good  to be able  to rest  in You  and know at least some  of the awesome greatness  of Your love  for us.”
