Do Not Fear Them

Do Not Fear Them

Fear can cause us  to make some very bad decisions.     People who are afraid  of their peers  will go with the flow  of evil, instead of standing strong  in the LORD.    We can make an unwise decision  and when we realize it,  be afraid  to turn around  and do what is right.

But,  life is all about turning around  and beginning to do  what is right  in God’s eyes.     Life is all about calling out  to our Savior  and asking for His help  every time we stumble and fall.     God knows all the things  we have to face  in this world.     He is not unsympathetic.

Instead,  His love yearns  to help us out  of our troubles.     He knows  that we cannot live  without His help.     So,  when we have fearful situations  and peers we’re afraid of,  who seem like they have control  over us,  we need to turn  to our LORD  for all the help  we desperately need.

We need  to remember all  that God has done  in the past  and His promises  for our future.

The Israelites had tremendous fears  entering the Promised Land.     They had fears  simply because they forgot  all about all the times  God had rescued them  in the past  from the Egyptians.     They forgot about God’s promises,  love,  and power.     Do we want to make  their same mistake?

In Deuteronomy,  chapter 1,  Moses recounts some  of what happened to them before  when God rescued them  from slavery.     And he recalled  how the people rebelled  against God Almighty  by falsely claiming  that God would not save them  from the giants living  in the Promised Land  —  saying God didn’t love them  any more.     What an awful way  to talk!

Here’s what Moses said  to the Israelites  as he recalls their fears  and disobedience  in Deuteronomy 1:26-33,

Yet  you were not willing to go up,  but rebelled  against the command  of the LORD your God;  and you grumbled  in your tents  and said, Because the LORD hates us,  He has brought us out  of the land of Egypt  to deliver us  into the hand  of the Amorites  to destroy us.

Where can we go up?     Our brethren  have made our hearts melt,  saying, ‘The people are bigger  and taller than we;  the cities are large  and fortified to heaven.     And besides,  we saw the sons  of the Anakim there.'”

Then I said to you,  ‘Do not be shocked,  nor fear them.     The LORD your God  who goes before you  will Himself fight  on your behalf,   just as He did  for you  in Egypt  before your eyes,  and in the wilderness  where you saw  how the LORD your God carried you,  just as a man carries his son,  in all the way  which you have walked,  until you came  to this place.’

But,  for all this,  you did not trust  the LORD your God,  who goes before you  on your way,  to seek out  a place for you  to encamp,  in fire by night  and cloud by day,  to show you the way  in which you should go.

It is simply wrong  for us  to not trust  in the LORD God Almighty.     His love for us  has been proven  time and again  throughout history  and throughout our lives.     We have no legitimate reason  to be afraid  of living according to God’s word  in this sinful world.     Remember God’s care  throughout our past.

Life will not get better  if we keep on caving in  to the sin around us.     The whole reason why we face  all our problems  in this world is  to prove and strengthen  our faith.     All we are to do  is trust  in our Savior  and live according to His will — not the world’s will.

As we trust  in the LORD  to guide us  through this life,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  blessed be Your love and care  for us,  as You give us joy and peace  in living  according to Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
