God Is Holding Out on Me

God Is Holding Out on Me

There are times  when we are tempted  to really feel belittled — and even downright unloved  by the Lord God Almighty.     We will think  in our hearts  about all the earthly things  other people have  in comparison  to the things we have  and  we will imagine  they are more blessed by God.     Then,  we might wonder why God doesn’t give us  these wonderful blessings.

Adam and Eve faced the same problem.     They were granted  by God  to eat from all the trees  in the garden — except one.     All those trees bore a wide variety  of luscious fruits  for them and provided them  the very best health  and satisfaction.     They had no reason  to “need” anything else.     God’s provisions  were all they needed.

But,  Satan was sneaky  in creating doubts  about God’s loving care  for them.     They knew exactly what they were allowed  to eat  in abundance — but — there was  that one tree  that they were commanded  to not eat from.     God specifically said  they would surely die  if they ate  from that tree.

So,  Satan got Eve to feeling  that God had lied  to them.     In Eve’s mind,  Satan framed God  as being stingy,  unloving,  selfish,  and uncaring.     All Satan had to say was,

You surely shall not die!     For God knows  that in the day  you eat from it   your eyes will be opened,  and you will be like God,  knowing good and evil.”

From that day on  Adam and Eve suffered  from their sins  until the day they died.

Their problem included  not trusting God’s love  in what God had given them.     In other words,  they were not thankful.     Adam and Eve’s unthankful hearts  led them  to not trust God  in their lives.

So,  the question is:   What’s in our heart?     Am we thankful  for what God’s wisdom  has given us?     Or,  are we ungratefully sinning  by imagining  God does not love us because — I don’t have this — and I don’t have that — and,  if God really loved me,  He would surely give me  this and that…….    Therefore,  I’ve got to conclude  that if God won’t give me this and that,  I’m going to go out  and get it for myself.     So there!”

When we allow Satan  to fool us  into thinking God has not rightly blessed us,  we are blinding ourselves  to what God knows  is best for us.     Our ungrateful hearts  will only lead us  into greater sins and distancing ourselves  from our Creator and Savior.

Unthankfulness gets us  to focusing on what we do not have  and forgetting about  all the blessings we do have.     We should  count our blessings  and give our heavenly Father thanks every day.     His wisdom,  love,  and salvation  in leading us  through this life  are all we really need.

As we count our blessings  and thank God  for them all,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You  for caring for our every need  and for strengthening us  in Your truths  and in realizing Your faithfulness.”
