The LORD Has Much More to Give

April 18, 2018

The LORD Has Much More to Give

If obedience  to the LORD  is going to cost us a pretty penny,  we might easily question  if it is worth following the Lord.     We worry  about losing  whatever money we have invested  in some venture.    That is the way things were  for King Amaziah  in 2 Chronicles chapter 25.    Amaziah was only twenty-five  when he became king  of Judah.    At this time in Israel,  all of  Israel was divided  into two kingdoms.     One was called “Israel”.     They were the ones  who had fallen  into idol worship.     And the other kingdom was called “Judah”.     They were the ones  from King David’s family.

It was said  that King Amaziah of Judah  did right  in the sight  of the LORD — but — not with his whole heart.     He was rather wishy-washy  in his faith.    After becoming king,  Amaziah realized his army  was rather small  and he decided  to hire some mercenary soldiers  from the kingdom of Israel.     He hired 100,000 valiant warriors  for a large sum  of money.

Then a prophet of God came  to him  and said  in 2 Chronicles 25:7-8,

O king,  do not let the army  of Israel go  with you,  for the LORD  is not with Israel  nor with any  of the sons of Ephraim.     But  if you do go,  do it,  be strong  for the battle;  yet God will bring you down  before the enemyfor God has power  to help and  to bring down.

That’s a scary warning.     If Amaziah uses the mercenary troops,  God will make him  lose the battle.     His common sense told him  to listen up — but,  he had already paid these troops  big time money.     So,  he asks the prophet,

But what shall we do  for the hundred talents  which I have given  to the troops  of Israel?

The prophet of God answered,

The LORD  has much more  to give you  than this.

Money can seem  ever so important  in this life.     After all,  money helps take care  of our needs.     When we lose money,  it hurts.     But,  when we look at the bottom line  of truth  in our lives,  it is God — and God alone — who blesses us  with the money we need.     The LORD God is  in control  of all things  and can easily provide  for all our needs.     We don’t have to worry  about money  because it is not something  we can take with us  when we die.

But,  we do need to be concerned  about our obedience and faith  in the LORD.     Our obedience and faith  will lead us  to our heavenly home.     So,  no matter how much the loss  of money hurts,  living for God  will provide eternal riches  beyond compare.     And,  living for God  will give us other victories  that we need  throughout this earthly life.     We do need a lot  of victories  from day-to-day  for our spiritual growth.

As we weigh our choices  in this life,  we will always do better  for ourselves  by choosing God’s way  in faith,  hope,  and love.     We don’t choose “God’s way”  in hopes  of getting earthly riches.     We choose God’s way  because of the immense greatness  of His love  for us  in Jesus Christ.     It is our honest love and respect  for the Lord  that should lead our choices  in life.     Realizing the awesome truth  of God’s righteousness  and sacrificial love  is what guides us.

Then,  as we face our daily choices,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You  for freeing us  to live  in Your ways.     Continually guide us  in this life  with Your eternal wisdom  and love.”
