Be Anxious for Nothing

April 25, 2018

Be Anxious for Nothing

When we think about our lives,  we have so many concerns.     There are mortgage payments,  raising the kids,  job concerns,  the tragedies in our family  or elsewhere,  political corruption,  educational challenges,  choosing a life time mate,  societal problems,  death in the family,  health problems,  helping friends with their problems,  etc.,  etc.      With all this  we realize how limited we are  in doing everything.

And then,  Paul comforts us  and teaches us  in Philippians 4:6-7,

Be anxious for nothing,  but in everything  by prayer and supplication  with thanksgiving  let your request  be made known  to God.

And the peace of God,  which surpasses  all comprehension,  shall guard your hearts  and your minds  in Christ Jesus.

Throughout the Psalms,  we can see  how this was the way King David reacted  to the big hurdles  in his life.     He might have had King Saul  or some other enemy trying  to kill him.     At one time  even his own son,  Absalom,  tried to kill him.     When he was a shepherd,  he had to face lions and bears  to protect his flock  of sheep.     Then there was the time  David had to face Goliath  the giant.

David’s life  was one challenge after another.     In every instance  he turned to God  in prayer.     But,  David did more than pray  for relief.     David always gave thanks  to God  for His loving care.     How could David thank God  for everything  before  his prayer was answered?

David trusted  in God’s love.     David knew  God is real,  that He truly is the Creator  of all things,  that He is almighty,  that He is our Redeemer and Savior,  and that He is  our sure defense  in the midst  of every problem.

That trust  gave David peace.     Yes,  that peace  is far beyond the understanding  of those who refuse  to acknowledge God  and trust Him.     But,  all who rely on God,  as a little child relies  on his parents  for help,  will receive the help they need.

What are your challenges today?     Are you willing  to entrust them  to the one and only LORD God  of all — our Creator and Redeemer?    Are you willing  to thank God  for His saving love  before your prayer  is “answered”?      Jesus would not have suffered and died  for us  if He did not love us.     That is definitely a love  that can be trusted.

Let us pray  with thankful hearts,  trusting in God’s proven love  for us,  so we can say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You  for taking care  of everything  for us.     As we struggle  with burdens,  we do not know  what to do.     But,  all things are possible  with You.     Blessed be Your name forever!”
