One Thing I Have Asked

One Thing I Have Asked

If you could have  just one thing  in this world,  what would you ask for?     What is  that one most important thing  that you just don’t ever want  to do without?     King David had thought about that a lot,  and he knew  what was the absolute,  most important thing  he would ever want  to ask for.     So,  he asked for it  in Psalm 27:4,

One thing I have asked  from the LORD,  that I shall seek;
That I may dwell  in the house  of the LORD  all the days  of my life,
To behold the beauty  of the LORD,
And to meditate  in His temple.

What do you think  about David’s greatest desire?     Did you choose something  that great?     Or,  did you discover  that David had a much more valuable desire?     David’s desire  is actually the most valuable thing  we can want  because it is eternal.     Most people don’t choose eternal things.     They only think about mediocre,  worldly things  that have no lasting value.

When we think about it,  knowing God  and being  in a good relationship  with Him  is the most absolute,  wondrous thing  anyone could ever  have.     “Dwelling  in the house  of the LORD” includes being in the safety  of God’s protective care — being saved  through the blood  of Jesus Christ — having the guidance  of the LORD  in this troublesome world — basking  in the love of God — seeing the awesome beauty  of the LORD’s glory  in everything He does  and has done  down through the ages — having fellowship  with our Creator — realizing the eternal faithfulness  of God — experiencing God’s grace  every day — and much more.     There is no end  to the list of blessings  we receive  when we live  with the LORD.

David knew  that he could be close  to the Lord,  even here on earth,  by meditating  on His word.     Every time we read and meditate  on God’s word,  we are drawing near  to the LORD  and He draws near  to us.

Let us make  this good request of God  and He will answer us — in daily meditation  and fellowship  that will help us  to grow strong  in the true faith,  unto our eternal salvation,  so that we will be close  to the Lord  while on earth  and eternally  in heaven.     Then we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  Your greatness and love  is far beyond  any human description,  but I can know  just a tiny bit of it  to realize  just how tremendously awesome  You are.”

Love,
Margaret
