The Patience of Our Lord
Since everyone struggles with growing in patience, we can all learn about patience from God’s word. The Bible is filled with examples of God’s patience with us in our sinful condition.
We have so much to learn from our Lord when we try to learn patience. When our hearts are humble — fully aware of the Lord’s majesty and almighty power — always focusing on God’s faithful love and salvation down through the ages — then we can have peace in learning to be patient ourselves. Then we can rest assured that God will meet all our needs and help us grow up in faith to His glory.
It’s like when Peter wrote about the end days and how there will be mockers despising and taunting the Christian faith. Those mockers will tell Christians they are fools for trusting in the “Lord”. They will tempt Christians with all sorts of ungodly ideas and claim that they are much more intelligent than those who have Jesus for a “crutch”.
Peter wrote that that will be a time for much needed patient godliness. As we strive to live godly lives in a very crooked world 2 Peter 3:15 instructs us to,
Regard the patience of our Lord to be salvation.
We are all sinners. God is giving us all time to realize that we need to trust Him for all our needs, no matter what sorts of temptations and trials we have to face. During our trials, God is giving us all time to grow in faith, hope, love — and patience.
We are to be aware that when God is being patient with us in our sinful, impatient condition, we are simply being given more time to come to a stronger, mature faith. God is very patiently wanting us to grow in faith and trust. As we entrust our souls to Him, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord, thank You for being our Refuge and Strength in this world. Help us to grow in patience, faith, hope, and love. Let Your patience make us strong in Your salvation.”
Love,
Margaret
