Grow in the Grace and Knowledge

Growing is of vital importance.     We want our gardens and fields  to grow  and produce good things  for us.     We want our children  to grow up healthy  and good  in all their ways.     We want our business to grow,  so that we can be of good  and popular service  to others, which will increase our income,  of course.     We want our knowledge  regarding many aspects of life  to grow,  so that we can feel good  understanding the world  around us.

Whatever kind of growth  we’re concerned about,  we try to provide  a good and conducive environment  for the growth  to take place.     We fertilize gardens and fields.     We give our children  good nourishment  and teach them good ways  of doing things.     We provide our business  with good workers,  supplies  and services  that will enhance our goals.    We study diligently  to gain knowledge  in various fields  of learning.

Every kind of growth  needs nourishment,  or it will wither  and die.     The same is true  of our spiritual life.     If we don’t take care  of our spiritual life,  our spirits will wither  and die  for lack of nourishment  from our Lord.

And,  of course,  God wants us to grow well  in all aspects  of our lives.     Our most important area of growth  is spiritual.     It is most important  because it reveals  whether or not we are strong  in the Lord — strong in the truth,  in faith,  in hope  and in love.

God’s word repeatedly implores us  to grow  in the true faith — by studying God’s word  to us.     Studying the Bible  is literally sitting  at the feet of Jesus  and learning  from Him.     Studying the Bible  is having fellowship  with our Lord — just being His friend  and trusting  His almighty authority.

Here are just three passages  encouraging us  to grow up healthy  and strong  in our Lord.     Note how they even encourage us  to “pull the weeds out of our gardens”  (so to speak),  so that our souls  may have a bit  of  “Sonshine”  and,  thereby,  grow stronger.

2 Peter 3:18   Grow  in the grace  and knowledge  of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.     To Him  be the glory,  both now  and to the day  of eternity.

1 Peter 2:1-3   Therefore,  putting aside all malice  and all guile  and hypocrisy  and envy  and all slander,  like newborn babes,  long  for the pure milk  of the word,  that by it  you may grow  in respect  to salvationif  you have tasted  the kindness  of the Lord.

Ephesians 4:14-15   As a result,  we are no longer  to be children,  tossed here and there  by waves,  and carried about  by every wind  of doctrine,  by the trickery  of men,  by craftiness  in deceitful scheming;  but speaking the truth  in love,  we are to grow up  in all aspects  into Him,  who is the head,  even Christ.

We let God care  for our souls  by abiding  in His word.     Then we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  be the Master Gardener  of my soul,  and let Your ‘Sonshine’ help me  to grow strong  unto eternal salvation.”

Love,
Margaret
