The LORD Will Be Your Confidence

The LORD Will Be Your Confidence

Stuff happens  in this life.     Some of the stuff  that happens  is accidental or natural,  like a health problem.     But, some stuff is an intentional affliction  from wicked,  deceitful,  and spiteful people.     This sort of wickedness has been going on  ever since the Fall  in the Garden of Eden.     How are we to face  intentionally wicked words  and actions designed  to hurt us?

Proverbs 3:25-26 speaks  to all those  who realize  that the Lord is God over all  — always has been  and always will be.     It says,

Do not be afraid  of sudden fear,
Nor  of the onslaught  of the wicked  when it comes
For the LORD will be your confidence,
And will keep your foot  from being caught.

The proverb writer here  had described a person  who was learning  that God’s wisdom  is well worth paying attention to — and following.      But,  surely,  even those who love God’s wisdom and goodness  will fall prey  to unscrupulous attacks  from those who despise  the LORD.

When such attacks come upon us,  we need to remember  that we are not really alone.    The LORD is  right by our side.     His love and His power  are by us  to help us,  whatever sort of onslaught  is being made.     It might come with hateful accusations  that desire  to put us  on a guilt trip.     It could be deceitful words  that claim our faith  in the LORD  is nothing but a bunch  of foolish superstitions.     It can even be an effort  to sucker us  into a sin,  that is deliberately designed  to make us feel  we have been cut off  from God’s love forever.

Whatever sort of attack comes,  the LORD is by our side.     We can depend  on Him.     He has promised and vowed  His love and forgiveness  for us.     So,  we don’t have to go  on a guilt trip  of any sort.     We can trust  in God’s truthfulness  when He promises  to continue loving and forgiving us  as we keep on looking  to Him  for all our needs.

When the world mocks our faith  and says  it is only a crutch  for the mentally and “spiritually” weak,  we can lean  on the power of God’s word  that has proven  down through the ages  that God surely is  the Way,  the Truth,  and the Life — and that  there is no other lord  or god.     The unbeliever has no such stable proof  of truth and comfort  like that.     Hence,  the unbeliever is forced  to fight with lies  and arrogant claims  that are nothing but foolishness  in the eyes  of the Almighty LORD.

The proverb writer  wants us  to be aware and wary  of  how  the enemy tries to defeat us  and tear down  our faith.     We can boldly trust  in the LORD  because He will help us  as we turn to Him  for all  of our needs.     He is our confidence  because He has proven His trustworthiness  since the beginning of time.

God allows us  to go through these sorts of experiences  for the purpose of strengthening us  in the true faith,  hope,  and love.     With the LORD  at our side,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your almighty power,  love,  and faithfulness have been proven  in Your word,  with all the promises  You have kept  in Jesus Christ.     Enable us  to always remember  what You do for us  every day.”

Love,
Margaret
