Sons of God Through Faith

Christians often groan,  “I wish I had more faith.     I know I am forgiven  in Christ.     I know God is true,  righteous,  and holy.    But,  I wish I had a strong faith  like  _____  so that I wouldn’t be so afraid  and unsure  all the time.”

It is good  to desire a stronger faith.    That is something every Christian needs  to strive for  because everyone is prone  to fall.     But,  the fact is,  whether one has a strong faith  or a weak faith,  we are all definitely God’s children.     God puts all His children together  so that we can all  help one another continue  to grow  in the true faith.     We are all one body  in Christ Jesus  as Paul explains  in 1 Corinthians 12:12-31.     Verse 27 there says,  “Now you are Christ’s body,  and individually members  of it.”

We should not feel inferior  or superior  to any other part  of the body  of Christ.     As Paul explains  in Galatians 3:26 “For you are all sons  of God  through faith  in Christ Jesus.”     We can all rejoice together  that we are God’s children — no matter who we are.

In the same breath,  we should not be satisfied  being weak  in our Christian walk  of faith.    Paul firmly tells us  in Ephesians 4:15“We are to grow up  in all aspects  into Him,  who is the head,  even Christ.”     As a small child strives  to be grown up,  we are to strive  to grow up  in the true faith.     We do that  by studying God’s word  and living  according to it.

Paul was not alone  in this truth.     Peter tells us  in 1 Peter 2:2“Like newborn babes,  long for the pure milk  of the word,  that by it  you may grow  in respect  to salvation.”      We will only grow  in salvation  as we drink  from the truths  in God’s word.

Peter had good reason  to teach the necessity  of our growing up  into God’s word.    He taught Christians  about the trials  we would all have to go through  in the end days.     It will be a time  of trials.    Then,   in 2 Peter 3:17-18,  he says,

“You therefore,  beloved,  knowing this beforehand,  be on your guard lest,  being carried away  by the error of unprincipled men,  you fall  from your own steadfastness,  but grow  in the grace and knowledge  of our Lord and Savior  Jesus Christ.”

We are children  of God.     Therefore,  we need to listen  to our heavenly Father  and obey.     It’s for our own safety and good,  so we won’t  “fall from your own steadfastness”.     Then,  as we grow  in faith,  we will find happiness  in being pleasing  to our Lord and Savior.

As we go  on our way rejoicing,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     My Lord,  thank You  for walking with me  all the way  and holding  onto my hand.”

Love,
Margaret
