All His Thoughts Are, “There Is No God.”
People have not changed. There are those who believe and trust God — and there are those who lift their noses in the air and with a sneer, boldly claim, “There is no God.” They are at odds.
We look at the world around us and see how the wicked are always devising sneaky plots to cheat and take advantage of God’s children. And they seem to be getting away with it much of the time. With a sick smile and chest proudly jutted out, the wicked are proud of their deceits and oppressions, their lies and mischievousness. They think it’s funny that no one is “smart enough” to outwit them. They boast about their ability to take advantage of others and get a “free ride” through life.
The writer of Psalm 10 lamented about the evil, underhanded ways of the wicked. In verses 3 and 4, he says,
For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire,
And the greedy man curses and spurns the LORD.
The wicked, in the haughtiness of his countenance, does not seek Him.
All his thoughts are, “There is no God.”
One does not have to live long on this earth to experience such wickedness and arrogance. There evidently is a rapidly growing number of those who claim, “There is no God.” They feel that whatever parameters they set up for their own standards of living are their prerogative, simply because they think they are superior to everyone around them.
Feeling the affliction of such constant wickedness, the psalmist asks and answers in verse 13 of Psalm 10,
Why has the wicked spurned God?
He has said to himself, “Thou wilt not require it.”
The wicked actually feel God does not care what they do. They don’t see their wickedness as a punishable evil because everyone else is doing it and seemingly getting away with it — so, why shouldn’t they? In their grandiose self-deception, they refuse to believe what the apostle Peter says about them in 2 Peter 2:3,
In their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
For now, we do have to live amongst such people in this world, but we need to always remember that all the wicked will be judged with eternal destruction. They will all pay dearly for their wickedness.
In the mean time, how are we supposed to be amongst so many godless people? Are we to nonchalantly say, “Well, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em“? Hardly. The number of God’s children is much fewer, but we are to follow Paul’s instructions in 1 Timothy 6:11-12,
But flee from these things, you man of God; and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called.
God’s children have good reason to flee all ungodliness. God is the Victor and the Judge of all things — us included. Jesus Christ suffered and died to pay for our sins and we have sinned more than enough already. It it time to start living in the love and truths of God.
As we live for the one and only Lord God, He will lead us in all righteousness, and we say, “Hallelujah! My Savior and Shepherd, Your leading is so good, and right, and true. Lead me through this weary land to Your home above.”
Love,
Margaret
