The Steadfast of Mind

August 29, 2018

The Steadfast of Mind

Our minds quickly get to racing  in many different situations.     Maybe it’s the diagnosis  of a debilitating illness — the loss of a job — an accident  that will change our future — the need  to choose a college or career — a betrayal — safety in a dangerous situation.     We just face all sorts  of challenges.

There are also times  when we are in a mess  as a result  of a poor decision or sin — and we don’t know how  to get out  of our predicament.     We might wonder  if God will ever forgive us  or help us again.     We just don’t know  what to do.     There doesn’t seem  to be an answer — and so,  our minds race  with all sorts  of possible solutions — all of which seem scary — and we feel helpless  and hopeless.     What is the right thing  to do?     What should surely  be avoided?     How can we manage things  rightly?

Only God knows the right way.     In every situation,  we need  to turn to Him.     Isaiah 26:3-4 gives us assurance  from God,

The steadfast of mind  Thou wilt keep  in perfect peace,
Because he trusts  in Thee.
Trust in the LORD  forever,
For in GOD the LORD,  we have an everlasting Rock.

Here is assurance  from God  that He will be our Rock forever — a solid place,  where we will always have peace  of mind, because we are resting our lives  in Him.

We can trust the LORD  to guide us  because He alone  is our “everlasting Rock”.     The LORD always has been  and always will be — He is “everlasting”.     There is no other Lord  or God  of any sort.     God created us  and everything there is.     He knows  our every thought and feeling,  the condition of our soul  and our body.     And,  to top all that off,  God has proven His love  for us  since the beginning of time,  by providing the Savior  He promised  in the beginning.     That Savior had to suffer  and die  to pay  for our sins.

Our sins are paid for  in full.     Our minds  can be steadfast  in that truth.     When we put our trust  in God’s proven love  in Christ Jesus,  He will give us  that “perfect peace”  we need  to settle down  and begin to confidently do things  God’s way.

When we are  in the middle of a disaster,  we can know  that God has been right beside us  all the way — because He said He would be.    Hebrews 13:5 states,

For He Himself has said,  ‘I will never desert you,  nor will I ever forsake you.’  so that we confidently say,  ‘The LORD is my helper,  I will not be afraid.     What shall man do to me?’

So,  no matter what sort of situation  we’re in,  our minds will be steadfast  as we trust  in the LORD.     Only God can help us   work through our problems — and that is something  He has promised  to do.     We just need  to  trust and obey.

As we daily go  to God’s word  and stay in fellowship  with Him,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     My Lord,  You are allowing me  to go through great challenges.     Thank You  for staying  right by my side  and helping every step  of the way.     Open up my heart and mind  to always live  in trust and obedience,  so I don’t have to be afraid  of things  in this world.”
