Nothing Can Stand Up Against the LORD
Proverbs 21:30
No wisdom, no intelligence, and no planning
can stand up against the LORD.
All around us we see people who take pride in their wisdom, intelligence and planning. They put on a bold face and proclaim their ability to surmount all sorts of challenges because of their superior talents. They look within themselves for the answers to every problem in life, because they don’t want to admit any sort of weakness or vulnerability — not even a need for God.
But, truth be said, we are all just created beings, who live on this earth for a very short time. Since we are created beings, we can only have whatever wisdom and intelligence God, our Creator, allows us.
If we try to use our gifts of wisdom and intelligence to stand up against the LORD’s wisdom and intelligence, we are foolish, indeed. In the end, on Judgment Day, we will have to face our Creator and Redeemer to answer to the reason for our unreasonable pride and plain ol’ foolishness.
A small part of God’s wisdom, intelligence, and planning can be seen throughout the wonders of all creation. And more than all that, God’s wisdom, intelligence, and planning are glorified in His work of salvation for our souls in Jesus Christ. Many intricate details in the life of Jesus were planned and prophesied by the LORD for our benefit, so that in our simplicity, our eyes of unbelief could be opened to catch a tiny glimpse of his awesome wisdom and intelligence in actually making us clean in the blood of Jesus.
Now what in all of this world can top that?
What other religion or philosophy since the beginning of time can do what God has done in Jesus Christ? Jesus proved He was the promised Savior with all His miracles and resurrection. Those miracles are attested to in other historical records besides the Bible. What more can we ask?
Since when have our gifts of wisdom, intelligence and planning been able to out do what God, our Creator, has done? We need to take a reality check.
Realizing the truth about ourselves is not the same as being pessimistic or gloomy about life. We are dearly loved by our Creator and Redeemer — so much so that He suffered and died to pay for our sins — but, we dare not become proud and arrogant just because we have more wisdom than the animals in this world.
James 4:10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will honor you.
We have good reason to humble ourselves before the LORD of lords and absolutely no valid reason to think we can even live for one moment without God’s power sustaining us.
Joyfully acknowledging God’s almighty, everlasting wisdom and intelligence in granting salvation to us, we say, “Hallelujah! All praise and glory and power and dominion are Yours, O Lord. Let us always walk in the light of Your word.”
Love,
Margaret
