The Firm Foundation of God Stands
It’s mind boggling how many and varied are the factions that despise the word of God. Everywhere one turns, someone is trying to make Christians “politically correct” and claiming they have to get a grip on reality to do things “their” way. They forcefully put forth their philosophical line of thinking and claim it is right — just because they “know it is”.
Now wait a minute. These are sinners talking — no different from anyone else in this corrupt world — and yet, they claim they are really “in the know” about all sorts of things? Really! These are people with obvious failings telling Christians how they need to change their thinking. People, who are going to die some day, are telling Christians that God Almighty, the eternal Lord, isn’t teaching them correctly in the Bible. That’s audacity!
The Bible is where we get our standards for living — our moral basis — our proofs of salvation — our faith, hope and love. But, the liberal world is telling us they know more than God — better than anything taught in the Bible. They are telling us to get a grip on reality and accept our “rights” as human beings — instead of following the words of God. Paul warns us to avoid such empty talk and states in 2 Timothy 2:19,
Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are His,” and “Let every one who names the name of the Lord abstain from wickedness.”
The “firm foundation of God” that stands forever is His word. This word of God has repeatedly proven its truthfulness through all the prophecies that have been fulfilled. Isn’t that a lot more trustworthy than the spouting off from the world? What have the people of the world done to prove their trustworthiness? Not much. They make many promises they cannot keep and they are prone to changing their mind all the time.
Not so with God Almighty. Paul tells us we have a “firm foundation God”. That foundation is Jesus Christ. What does that mean? It means that our Savior, Jesus, was first promised in the Garden of Eden and later through many prophets over the next few thousand years. Those were not empty promises. All of God’s promises came true in Jesus Christ — no matter what year the promise was made or by which prophet — they all described different aspects of Jesus Christ.
That is why we can rest assured that Jesus really is the Savior, who has the power to forgive all of our sins. No other religion or philosophy or person in all of history can do anything like what God has done in Jesus Christ. Just as prophesied, Jesus rose from the dead to prove His almighty authority.
So, just who should we believe? Should we believe anything said by those who deny and mock the word of God? What logical reason is there for accepting the liberal thinking of this world?
God is the one who has proven His trustworthiness. God has proven in Christ that He has given us a “firm foundation” on which to base our faith, our thinking process, our morals. We have no honest reason to doubt this “firm foundation”. Some of God’s words of comfort that describe our foundation can be considered at:
2 Corinthians 5:19 — God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them.
John 1:14 — And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
1 Peter 3:18 — For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God…
1 Peter 2:24 — And He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.
Isaiah 53:5 — But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed.
It is not good to deny what has been proven since the beginning of time. We need a “firm foundation” for our thinking. We need truth to guide us in our reasoning. The wishy-washy philosophies and opinions of this world are unable to lead anyone in truth.
For the sake of our eternal life we dare not give up these truths and moral guidelines. We are choosing between life and death. This is not the time to be nonchalant about how and why we should think the way we do. More than ever, Christians need to stand strong on the “firm foundation” God has given us in Christ. We let Christ’s teachings guide our thinking.
In the strength of our Lord, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord, You have proven your righteousness and trustworthiness in Christ Jesus. Keep us strong in Your truths.”
Love,
Margaret
