In the Day of My Trouble
A number of years ago, a chocolate lab named Max was in big time trouble. He went for a ride with his owner to get some errands done. When they got back home, the owner forgot that Max was in the car and she simply went in the house and started her cleaning chores. She heard her car’s horn blowing and went outside to check, but saw nothing and returned back to the house.
But, the car’s horn started blowing again and she went out to check things again. Then she saw Max in the driver’s seat. Horrified that she had left Max in the car in 90 degree plus heat, she rushed to get Max out, and he just dropped in a heap. The owner quickly got him water to drink and cooled him down with cold, wet rags.
Max recovered well because he knew how to call for help in his desperate situation. Had Max not realized his need for help or known how to call for help, he would have died. Smart dog.
Time and again, people need the wisdom to call out to God for help. When we are entangled in situations that will bring eternal death, we need to know how to call out to our Lord and Savior for the help we need. We are all entrapped in our sins and need to call on God every day for His saving forgiveness. Only God’s grace can rescue us from certain death.
King David knew how to call to the Lord for help as he was always aware of his sinful nature. In Psalm 86:7, David said,
In the day of my trouble I shall call upon Thee,
For Thou wilt answer me.
And God gives us all a sure promise of assurance in Psalm 91:14-15,
Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name.
He will call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him, and honor him.
God even makes a request of each of us in Psalm 50:15, that we should gladly heed. He tells us,
Call upon Me in the day of trouble;
I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me.
This request from God is made repeatedly throughout scripture. God wants us to know for sure that we can call out to Him for forgiveness and salvation, and He will surely come and rescue us. Are we smart enough to ask for help, like Max?
Rescued and freed from all our sins, we gladly look to our Lord for help, and say, “Hallelujah! Lord, thank You for saving me from eternal death and hearing my cry for help.”
Love,
Margaret
