Put My Tears in Thy Bottle

Put My Tears in Thy Bottle

Sometimes people feel  that God does not care  about all their troubles — but the truth is  that God truly does care,  more than we can know.     King David realized  that God actually keeps a record  of all our sorrows.     In Psalm 56:8,  David wrote,

Thou hast taken account  of my wanderings;
Put my tears  in Thy bottle;
Are they not  in Thy book?

When David wrote Psalm 56,  the Philistines had seized him  in Gath.    Even though his enemies were trying  to take his life,  David realized  that his life was really  in God’s hands — so he praised God’s words  of promise  to care for him.     David knew  that no matter what his enemies did,  God would judge them  in the end  for their wickedness — and God would give David  all the blessings of heaven  for keeping his trust and faith.

David could thank God  because he realized  that God’s blessings are  in all eternity.     The children of God  can thank God no matter what is happening,  because God’s deliverance is  through eternity.     What happens on earth is  of no  real,  lasting consequence.

That is why  in verse 11  David says,

In God  I have put my trust,  I shall not be afraid.
What can man do  to me?

What ever wicked people do  to God’s children  will never be able  to take away the bliss  of eternal life  for every believer.     All the wicked are really doing is  bringing down more punishment  upon themselves  for all eternity.

God did deliver David physically  in this situation.     But,  we do know  of many of God’s people  who were killed  and tortured  for their faith.     God certainly has all their tears  in His bottle  and none  of their sufferings  will be wasted.     In keeping the true faith  in trying circumstances,  each believer will receive great rewards  in heaven.

Like David,  let us always praise God  in all situations,  trusting in God’s eternal care.     Then we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord, thank You  for letting me get to know You  as my LORD and Savior,  my King and Redeemer.     Thank You  for the promises  in Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
