The LORD Is Good to All
Psalm 145:8-9
The LORD is gracious and merciful;
Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness.
The LORD is good to all,
And His mercies are over all His works.
It’s true that our sins are always with us — in our thoughts, intentions, feelings and actions. When we are aware of our sinful natures, it can get rather disheartening. A person might tend to wonder whether or not God will forgive their wrongs and think that they should just give up such a hope. It doesn’t quite seem reasonable to always be hoping for forgiveness and more forgiveness, and yet more forgiveness as we keep falling into sin.
King David knew for sure he could trust God’s grace and mercy. From experience, David realized that God really was slow in getting angry with him, and even then, God was ever so great in expressing His almighty lovingkindness.
That was a mercy that always humbled David and lifted up his heart in hope and sheer thankfulness. Over and over, throughout the Psalms, in many different ways, David expressed the truth that “the LORD is good to all.” It was true that David was unworthy just as we all are, but that is not what God ever thought of.
Because of David’s faith and humble trust in the LORD, God compassionately and most readily forgave all of David’s sins.
We need to remember that the sins of those who despise and hate the LORD are definitely not forgiven. These are the kind of people who are repulsed at the mere idea of even asking for forgiveness. They arrogantly don’t think they need God’s forgiveness. They even mock Christianity for trusting in receiving forgiveness from the Lord.
Because God has repeatedly proven that He keeps His word and can be trusted, we can rest assured that He will be gracious and merciful to us when we ask for His forgiveness.
Then, free from our sins because of Jesus’ suffering and death on the cross for our sake, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord, Your love and mercy in Jesus Christ have atoned for all of my sins. Blessed be Your love.”
Love,
Margaret
