Not Washed from His Filthiness
Proverbs 30:12
There is a kind who is pure in his own eyes,
Yet is not washed from his filthiness.
We meet all kinds of people in this world. Most everyone claims they try “really hard” to be good, honest, righteous, generous, truthful, hard-working, thoughtful, and have all the other positive attributes that their “god” desires in people. They boldly proclaim that they truly live better lives than the average person.
Never will they admit to a wrong-doing because there is always a good reason for their behavior. Such people boldly claim that all the problems in this world are always the fault of others, who don’t know how to think logically, manage their affairs successfully, be positive in their decisions, or have the right outlook on life.
Because these people haughtily pronounce themselves pure and righteous enough to enter heaven through their own power, God lets us know that they are “not washed” from their filthiness. Because their sins remain with them and they refuse to repent, they will suffer the consequences of eternal damnation.
That is a sad demise chosen by those who are too proud to repent and trust in the love and salvation we can all have in Jesus Christ. None of our efforts can save us. Rather, all the glory belongs to God alone. Titus 3:5-7 explains,
He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that being justified by His grace we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
God’s mercy and grace save us. The world’s opinion does not matter one little bit. None of the world’s philosophies or false religions or courses in “positive thinking” or meditation practices or anything else can help us live eternally in heaven. The world can do nothing but drag us down and away from God.
Because it is only God’s mercy and grace through Christ Jesus that can save us, it is to our eternal benefit to admit our sinful natures to the LORD and accept the sacrifice of Jesus’ blood as the only means of our salvation. Revelation 22:14 says of all who turn to God,
Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city.
If we want this blessing, we must turn to Christ so that He may give it to us. Then we say, “Hallelujah! Lord Jesus, Your gift of salvation and forgiveness sets me free from all the worldly things that have been burdening me. Thank You for faithfully watching over me.”
Love,
Margaret
