The LORD Bless You and Keep You

Numbers 6:24-26

The LORD bless you  and keep you;
The LORD make His face shine  on you,
And be gracious  to you;
The LORD lift up His countenance  on you,
And give you  peace.

This is a most beautiful blessing  that the LORD commanded Moses  to pronounce  upon all the Israelite congregation.     This blessing has been a part  of worship services  ever since the time of Moses,  so it has been  in use  around 3,500 years.     And,  oh how we need it.

If  the LORD is not with us  to bless us  and keep us,  things will not be headed  in the right direction.     Nevertheless,  many people will blindly imagine  that things are going well  for them,  based on their wealth,  job security,  welfare check,  supply of drugs,  or whatever else it is  that they hang onto  as a necessity  in their life.     All this worldly stuff we grab hold of   is not  what really blesses  or keeps us.

Our most wondrous blessing and keeping  is to know the LORD  as our God  and Savior,  so that we may live eternally  with Him  in heaven.     Only in being safe  in our Lord’s care  can we truly be blessed  and kept secure.     The worldly stuff will fail everyone  because it gets old  and rots away.     No one can take it with them  after this life.     So,  it is mighty important  to have the  “LORD make His face shine  on you  and be gracious  to you.”

That is something the LORD wants to do  for us  every day  of our lives.     All we need to do  is to be always turning to Him  and trusting   in all His promises.     When we look  to the LORD  for all our needs,  we are having  the right perspective on life — and that pleases God.    Then He is able  to bless us  and keep us  in the safety of His ways.

We can always be sure  of God’s love,  because He sent Jesus as our Savior,  exactly as He had promised.     Then  we can sing  like David did  in Psalm 145:9,

The LORD is good to all,
And His mercies  are over  all His works.

Let us turn our hearts  and souls  to the Lord  every day  so that He may bless  and keep us,  leading us  to our home in heaven.     Then,  in the peace of abiding in our Lord,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for faithfully caring for me,  even when I have strayed.     And thank You for always wanting  to bless  and keep me  in Your tender care.     Your faithfulness draws me near  to You.”

Love,
Margaret
