Cultivate Faithfulness

Psalm 37:1-3

Fret not yourself  because of evildoers.
Be not envious  toward wrongdoers.
For they will wither quickly  like the grass,
And fade  like the green herb.
Trust in the LORD,  and do good;
Dwell in the land  and cultivate faithfulness.

King David certainly speaks  from experience.     Throughout his life,  he had to face  all sorts of wrongs  being perpetrated against him.     The wrongdoers were those  who were jealous  of him being anointed as king,  when they wanted  to be the ruler — they hated him  for his faith in God — they were fearful  of his successes in battle — they didn’t want a godly person ruling  over them.

Consequently,  for many wrongful reasons,  there were quite a number of people  who intended evil  against David.     But,  no matter what these people did,  David continually looked  to the Lord  for his help  and praised God,  because he knew  that all evil  will come  to an end  at some time or another.

So,  David’s message for us today is,

Trust in the LORD,  and do good;
Dwell in the land  and cultivate faithfulness.

We need to constantly remember  that the LORD is  in control,  and based on God’s love for us  in Jesus Christ,  we certainly can trust God  to work all things  for our good  in the end.     Because God  can be trusted,  we can let that  strengthen us  to continue doing good,  no matter what the opinion  of the world  might be.     As we live  and keep on doing  what is right and good,  always praising God  for His tender care,  we will be cultivating faithfulness.

Cultivating is  intensive work,  even with today’s modern machinery.     And,  it is intensive work  to  “cultivate faithfulness”  as we struggle  to  “trust in the LORD,  and do good”  all while the world is trying  to do us in  with their wicked ways.     No matter what the world does  to try to destroy our faith  in the LORD,  we need  to intently  “cultivate faithfulness”  because it is God  who is holy,  righteous,  truthful,  and our only salvation  in Jesus Christ alone.

All our struggles  to be faithful,  while living on this earth,  will be abundantly worth it  in all of eternity.     Then,  we will be ever so glad  to have faithfully lived  for the LORD.     And,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     My Lord,  thank You  for all the blessings  of Your word,  that strengthen me  to continue trusting  in Your truths and salvation,  so that I might  “cultivate faithfulness”  to Your glory.”

Love,
Margaret
