Your Opinion Matters

Your Opinion Matters

Our opinions are so important  because we could be  either right  or wrong.     Our opinions lead us to think  and plan ahead,  so that everything works out well  for us.     When we form our opinions,  we try to be aware of  and open  to all sorts of possibilities.     An example is of a student preparing  for a test.     The student tries to imagine what areas  of the material covered  would most likely be tested.     He does not want  to spend time studying irrelevant points.     His choices depend  on his opinion  of what is important  to his professor.

The same goes for every business person.     They form opinions  of how to resolve problems  and how to best meet the needs  of their customers,  so that their business will thrive — instead of failing.     Their opinions  of their customers’ needs matters.

Whatever our position in life — our opinions matter.

Our opinions even have eternal repercussions.     So,  what we think about God  and salvation  in Jesus Christ today   will matter  in all eternity.     People definitely have differing opinions  about the gospel.     1 Corinthians 1:18  says,

For the word  of the cross  is to those who are perishing  foolishness,  but to us  who are being saved  it is  the power of God.

There are two different opinions — the significance  of the cross  in our lives today  is seen from two different perspectives.     On the one hand,  some people are of the opinion  they are doing just fine and dandy  without having God butt  into their lives.     They may nonchalantly say,  “Thanks,  but no thanks.”     Or,  they might be a bit more adamant and snarl,  “Just get out of my face!”     These people think the gospel  of Christ  is nothing but foolishness.      But,  Paul notes that they are perishing.

On the other hand,  there are other people  who hear God’s word  and are struck  by the realization  that they really are sinners headed  for hell.     They see the horror  of their sins  and the awfulness  of their actually having defied God Almighty,  their Creator and Savior.     And they also see the wonder  of God’s love  still being extended  to them  in total forgiveness and the grace  of those promises  to help them  in their need.      They appreciate this marvelous love and forgiveness  so much  that they begin to live  changed lives — changed for the better.

So,  what’s your opinion?     What are you betting on?

Remembering the power of God  in Jesus Christ  through all of history,  from the beginning of time,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     My Savior,  thank You  for reaching out to even me  with the tenderness  of Your compassion  and the power  of Your love.”
