Glory to God in the Highest
So much of the world is totally unaware of the marvelous works of our LORD. With troubled hearts, they doggedly face their worldly problems with no hope, no faith, no knowledge of what God does for us every day. So their hearts are lost with no praise or thanksgiving — no worship.
But, the angels know what God is doing — and they know how marvelous and miraculous it all is. They have witnessed how down through the ages the LORD has worked all of history to bring about His promises of a Savior from sin. All the detailed prophecies of the Savior’s birth culminated in the birth of Jesus Christ. That’s awesome!
That is why the angels were so filled with joy as they told the shepherds about the Savior’s birth. In Luke 2:14, they just had to break out and sing,
Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.
And that is how the angels will feel again on Judgment Day, when the rest of God’s word is fulfilled. Then, everyone will see and realize the wondrous works of God. In the midst of all sorts of sin, trials, and troubles, God’s children can have the peace of knowing our Savior.
The angels were pronouncing that God does have the greatest glory in the highest places. And, here on earth, everyone who looks to our Savior in faith will have true peace. They will have peace in spite of whatever troubles they are facing. God is pleased with those who trust in Him in the midst of their troubles. As our heavenly Father is pleased with our faith, He gives us the peace that passes all understanding, just as Paul tells us in Philippians 4:7,
And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
As we abide in God’s word, we will see how the humble birth of Jesus, in such trying circumstances, is the fulfilling of God’s faithful promises. That is God showing us outright that He can and should be trusted, because He is, indeed, our Creator, Sustainer, Redeemer, LORD, and God over all.
That is our reason for peace, praise, and thanksgiving, with worshiping hearts — whatever our circumstances.
In the peace of our Savior, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord, all glory, honor, and praise surely belong to You. Thank you for giving the peace of knowing your trustworthiness.”
Love,
Margaret
