Treasured Up
When the shepherds came and saw the baby Jesus, they most likely told Joseph and Mary their experience with the angels’ announcement and praise to the Lord. And then, they went and told others what the angels had told them about this Christ Child. That was an awesome experience for Mary, so we read in Luke 2:19,
But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.
Yes, it’s now over 2,000 years later, but we also need to treasure up all these things in our hearts and minds. We need to ponder what really took place and how God Almighty worked so many things together to fulfill His word, saying He would give us a Savior, who would take away all of our sins. We even need to ponder the consequences of sins that are not repented of.
People treasure a lot of stuff in this world, but it’s all stuff that will pass away. We will have real, honest-to-goodness eternal treasure when we accept this Jesus as our Savior, King, and Lord. We can treasure up these happenings by reading these accounts in the Bible, and meditating on them. We are to store them up in our hearts, so that when times are rough, these treasures will strengthen and comfort us.
A part of the treasuring of these happenings is to memorize verses connected to these happenings. We can also think about how these events affect our lives when we accept Jesus as our Savior. Such pondering will help us in times of stress because we will be dwelling on the truths of God and His love for us.
Pondering truth has so many benefits when the world is trying to twist the facts and promote their idolatries, superstitions, and false teachings. And, remembering these truths will bring us the peace that we need in this world.
As we treasure up God’s love for us, we say, “Hallelujah! My Lord, Your power to work all things to fulfill Your prophecies of our Savior helps us to realize Your truthfulness and faithfulness in keeping all Your promises. It all leads us to know that we really do have salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Blessed be Your name for loving us so dearly.”
Love,
Margaret
