Make His Footsteps into a Way
Psalm 85:13
Righteousness will go before Him,
And will make His footsteps into a way.
Everything God does is good, right, and holy. In God’s goodness, He forgives our sins, rescues us in our troubles, shows us the way of salvation, revives us when we are weary from our challenges, and supplies our daily needs.
As we receive all these mercies from our Lord, we are seeing His righteousness. In other words, when we see how our sins are forgiven in Jesus, we are seeing God’s righteousness. When we are rescued in some trouble, we are seeing God’s righteousness. When we are so tired from the hard times we have faced and God revives us, we are again seeing more of God’s righteousness.
His righteousness goes before Him and shows us how merciful and good He is. God’s righteousness is a way for us to learn righteousness. We wouldn’t have a clue about righteousness, unless God would show us His righteousness in thousands of different little ways every day.
If everyone was left to be on their own, all of our wickedness would soon do us in, because we couldn’t learn righteousness by ourselves. But, God kindly works with our conscience, showing us the goodness of goodness — and we come to long for goodness.
As we gradually and daily turn to the LORD and learn to see how good His righteousness is, then His righteousness “will make His footsteps into a way” for us. His many examples of love cause us to want to be like Him, because it makes us complete and at peace to experience His goodness. Then we become God’s child, trying to walk in our heavenly Father’s footsteps.
Small children delight to follow in their daddy’s footsteps. We, too, can delight to walk in our heavenly Father’s footsteps, with strides in faith, hope, and love. We can take great delight in imitating our heavenly Father’s righteous ways.
Then, we say, “Hallelujah! Abba! Father! You are awesome in Your ways! Help me to be righteous for Your name’s sake.”
Love,
Margaret
