At the Name

Hearing various names  brings up different reactions,  depending upon  our knowledge and relationship  to the one named.     Whether it is the name  of a family member,  friend,  enemy,  or famous personage,  names mean something  to each of us.

That is why  it is so very wrong  when someone takes the name  of the Lord  in vain.     They do not have a right relationship  with the Lord — or possibly,  no relationship  with the Lord.     Many people  who use God’s name in vain  have no idea  about the judgment  they are bringing upon themselves.     They think they are being  “cool”,  strong,  and looking good  in the eyes  of their peers  as they nonchalantly spout off.

But,  come Judgment Day,  they will automatically fall down and worship the LORD God Almighty  they were so awfully disrespectful of.     Philippians 2:9-11  tells us this  about Jesus,

Therefore also  God highly exalted Him,  and bestowed  on Him  the name  which is above every name,  that at the name  of Jesus  every knee should bow,  of those who are  in heaven,  and on earth,  and under the earth,  and that every tongue should confess  that Jesus Christ  is Lord,  to the glory  of God the Father.

Absolutely everyone will bow down  and worship Jesus  because they will see Him  in all His almighty glory,  power,  love,  and authority.     For those who have always honored  and trusted  in the Lord Jesus,  it will be a time  of great joy  and an overflowing  of love and praise.

But,  those who had chosen  to carelessly take God’s name  in vain  will bow down and worship  in fear of judgment.     They will realize their wrongful pride  in rejecting Jesus  during their lifetime  as they took His name  in vain,  in spite of all the opportunities they had  to turn to Him  in repentance.

Everyone needs  to think about their reaction  to the name of Jesus  while we’re still here  on earth.     The truths about Jesus — His faithful love and His salvation — don’t need to be painful  on Judgment Day.     We have this day  to ask for forgiveness  and change our ways.

But,  we don’t know about tomorrow.     How many more chances will we get?     Time flies.

Marveling at the truths  of Jesus’ eternal love  for us,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  Your name truly is  above all names — and yet,  You want to be  a Friend and Savior  to the likes of us.     Let us boldly confess the wonders  of Your holy name  all the days  of our lives.”

Love,
Margaret
