It Is Good

Psalm 147:1

Praise the LORD!
For it is good to sing praises  to our God;
For it is pleasant  and praise is becoming.

Far too much of the time  people  “forget”  to sing praises  to God.     That is no different from receiving expensive gifts  from someone who loves us  and  “forgetting”  to say “thank you” — or worse yet,  not wanting to say  “thank you”  because we think  we deserve  even more.       Not praising God is a very unloving way to be.

Because absolutely everything we have is ultimately a gift  from God,  it is good  to sing praises  to our God”.     It is only right and decent  to know how  to say  “thank you”.     Singing praises  to God is a part  of giving thanks.

We can sing praises  to God  for the free gift of salvation  in Christ Jesus,  all the miracles  in creation,  God’s faithfulness  in fulfilling His promises,  all the provisions we have,  and so much more.

As we praise God,  we will realize  how pleasant it is  to give the praise  that is due  to His name.     It’s something  we’ve always known  we should rightfully do,  and when we finally do it,  it is a relief.     We were made  to give praises to the Lord,  so when we praise Him,  we are fulfilling the purpose  of our whole being.     We become more complete.

And then,  it says,  “praise is becoming”.      Praise is a beautiful thing  that really fits the majesty and glory  of God Almighty  and all the wondrously loving things  He has done  throughout all creation.

Not wanting  to give praise and thanks  where it is due  is an ugly and despicable way  to be.      It shows selfishness,  discontent,  ungratefulness, and the depths  of our sinful nature.

Praising God  is centered  on all the truths  of our existence.     We can’t even take another breath  without the grace of God permitting it.     So,  our next breath is just another opportunity  to praise God  because it is good  and the right thing to do.

Basking  in the love God pours out  to us,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Thank You,  Lord,  for Your patience and faithfulness  in teaching us  to be more like You.”

Love,
Margaret
