Never Able to Come

Never Able to Come
With all sorts of media bombarding to gain our attention, we need to realize that much of it is promoting all sorts of godless ideas. Amongst the most deceptive are many different false preachers, preaching things that deny the historically proven validity of the Bible — and in its place, they are preaching a “feel good” message that is only from their imaginations — having no basis in the truths of God.
This sort of false preaching was going on way back in the days of Jeremiah, around 600 B.C. For that reason, in Jeremiah 23:16 the LORD says,
Do not listen to the words of the prophets
who are prophesying to you.
They are leading you into futility;
They speak a vision of their own imagination,
Not from the mouth of the LORD.
The false preachers back then did not have the mass media of today, but they still arrogantly sought to deny the truths of God. It was all from their imaginations and mixed with ideas from various forms of idol worship. The end result for anyone who believed them was “futility”. What good do we do ourselves in believing lies? But, people seem to love them anyway.
The problem of false preachers did not go away after Christ’s resurrection. Instead, Paul had to descriptively write in 2 Timothy 3:1-7,
But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; and avoid such men as these.
For among them are those who enter into households and captivate weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Paul’s description fits all the false preachers of today as they boldly promote their own imaginations and deceptively claim to be preaching God’s word. They reject the Bible’s words on repentance and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. They put on a front of being godly, but deny the power of Jesus’ resurrection for all who believe in God’s promises of forgiveness and eternal life.
We need to avoid these false preachers like the plague. As people are seeking to know about God, these false preachers come claiming to have all sorts of superior knowledge. But, as people “learn” about all their philosophies, methods of meditation, imaginations, dreams, rules, and new ways of “worship”, people become more and more lost.
People are busy, busy, busy learning what is false. They have a feeling about its emptiness, but think they just need to keep on learning more about this religious teaching. They think if they just learn more, it will fill the empty void in their lives. But, the fact is, they are “never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
No one is ever able to learn truth until we go straight to God’s eternal word — the Bible. We need to become grounded in the proven truths of the Bible. There is no other book that offers God’s truths in the way God Himself has given His word to us.
When we hold close to God’s truths, as He has given them to us in the Bible, we will come to a true repentance and the “knowledge of the truth”. Then Jesus’ promise will come true for us. In John 8:31-32, Jesus promises us,
If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
When we are free in the knowledge of God’s truth about salvation, we will rejoice and say, “Hallelujah! Lord, thank You for being gracious to me and freely forgiving all my sins through faith in the shed blood of Christ Jesus.”
Love,
Margaret
