Perfected for All Time

Perfected for All Time

Sometimes,  we find in God’s word  places where a point is repeated  for emphasis.     It’s something we definitely need  to  pay attention to  and not forget.     That way of emphasizing a point is used  in the book of Hebrews.     There we read,

Hebrews 10:10
By this will  we have been sanctified  through the offering  of the body  of Jesus Christ  once for all.

Hebrews 10:12
But He,  having offered  one sacrifice  for sins  for all time,  sat down  at the right hand of God.

Hebrews 10:14
For by one offering   He has perfected  for all time   those who are sanctified.

In the context of these verses,  we read about how  in the Old Testament times,  the Jews  had to repeatedly  make sacrifices  to pay  for their sins.    It was a way of life  for them.     The Old Testament gives detailed instructions  on the different kinds  of sacrifices needed  for various purposes.     Each time they made a sacrifice,  they realized  that their ongoing sins would require  that yet another sacrifice  would be needed  for future sins.

So,  there was always the burden  of thinking  about their sins  and their need  to make another sacrifice  to pay for their latest sins.     None of the Old Testament sacrifices could make them forever perfect  and sanctified  in God’s eyes.

But,  the one sacrifice of Jesus Christ’s suffering and death  on the cross  is totally worthy  and different  from all the Old Testament sacrifices.     Because  Jesus is true God  and true man, and because He is holy,  without sin  of any sort,  His sacrifice needed  to be made  only that one time.     Jesus’  one-time sacrifice  makes us perfect  in God’s eyes  now and forever — by faith  in the blood of Jesus.

Absolutely everyone who believes in  and trusts in  the merits of Jesus Christ  to wash away all of our sins  is truly made holy  and sanctified  by the LORD God Almighty.     All it takes is faith  in Jesus Christ  to become holy forever.     We are never to imagine  that we must add our own good works,  religious observances,  or personal sacrifices  to what Jesus has already done,  in order to maintain our forgiven state of being.

By faith,  through the grace of God,  we are forgiven.     When we sin,  we confess that sin  and once again  accept the forgiveness Jesus earned  for us.     It is Jesus’ sacrifice  that saves us eternally — not anything we try  to do.

If we snub the gift  of forgiveness  in Jesus Christ alone — thinking it is not enough  to actually pay  for our sins — then we are not living  by the faith required of us.     Only Jesus is  “the way,  the truth,  and the life.”    (John 14:6)      We had better not be trying  a different way  to get into heaven  through our own efforts  and self-righteousness.

It’s just as Jesus says  in  John 10:1  and  John 10:7.     “Truly, truly,  I say to you,  he who does not enter  by the door  into the fold of the sheep,  but climbs up some other way,  he is a thief and a robber,”  and  I am the door  of the sheep.”

Jesus is the one and only way  to be  “perfected for all time”  in the eyes of God.     Let us go to Him  and trust Him  to make us perfect  for all time.     That is all He repeatedly asks  of us.     Hopefully,  He has gotten our attention  and trust.

Then we will say,  “Hallelujah!     Jesus,  Your one sacrifice  was so pure and holy  in every aspect.     Let me always come  to You  and abide  in Your protective love  and forgiveness.”

Love,
Margaret
