Those Who Speak Lies Go Astray from Birth

Consider how lies  change the world  we live in.     It’s appalling how much distrust,  suspicion,  backbiting,  pain,  hatred,  gossip,  hiding,  sneaking,  slander,  fear,  war,  and all sorts of evils  are started  because of  lies.     Things get ugly pretty fast.     Everyone is affected — even innocent bystanders.

Where lies abound,  there is no peace,  joy,  love,  mercy,  goodness,  purity,  kindness,  hope,  thriving.     Everything good becomes strangled  in the growing web of lies  that try to hide previous lies.

Yes,  we all sin  and are all guilty.     Nevertheless,  there still is a huge difference  between perpetual liars  and those living in the truths  of God.     Psalm 58:3  reveals something  that is reiterated  in a number of places  in the Bible.     David says,

The wicked are estranged  from the womb;
Those who speak lies  go astray  from birth.

Yes,  we were all born  in sin,  but the wicked  love their lies,  violence,  hateful ways,  and evils.     They revel  in what they think  they are deceitfully  getting away with.     Jesus talks about the source of lies  in John 8:44,  when He was talking about those people  who refused  to believe  that He is the long-promised Savior.     Jesus firmly told those  who hated Him,

You are of your father  the devil,  and you want to do  the desires  of your father.     He was a murderer  from the beginning,  and does not stand  in the truth,  because  there is no truth  in him.     Whenever he speaks a lie,  he speaks  from his own nature;  for he is a liar,  and the father of lies.

That is an awful truth.     And,  we need to highly respect this word of God,  lest we allow ourselves  to become entrapped  by the lies  of this world.     Paul later writes  about how we are to deal  with lies.     In Colossians 3,  he first lists all kinds of sins,  and then,  in verses 6-10,  Paul tells us,

 For it is on account of these things  that the wrath of God  will come,  and in them  you also  once walked,  when you were living  in them.     But now  you also,  put them all aside:  anger,  wrath,  malice,  slander,  and abusive speech  from your mouth.

Do not lie  to one another,  since you laid aside  the old self  with its evil practices,  and have put on  the new self  who is being renewed  to a true knowledge  according to the image  of the One  who created him.

In other words,  yes,  we have all sinned — but,  now that we know  the love and salvation we have  in Jesus Christ,  and want to be saved,  we’ve got to knock off  our old, sinful habits  and start living  in the truths  and purity  of God’s love.

In all that goes on  in this world,  we need to realize  that anything  that speaks against God  and His word  is an outright lie.     Lies against God  and His truths  are not to be tolerated  because  they kill people eternally.     Lies against God’s word  cause people  to distrust the Lord  and lose their faith.     That is why  Jesus says  in Matthew 18:6,

But whoever causes  one of these little ones  who believe in Me  to stumble,  it is better for him  that a heavy millstone  be hung around his neck,  and that he be drowned  in the depth  of the sea.

For the sake  of everyone’s salvation — including ours — we must remain strong  in the truth.     Then,  in the true faith,  true hope,  and true love,  maybe we can bring others  to know the glorious salvation  Jesus so greatly desires  to give them.

In the truth and the joy  of salvation,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     My Lord,  You are the Way,  the Truth,  and the Life.     Thank You for mercifully granting us  the grace  of eternal life  through the virtues  of Your truths.”

Love,
Margaret
