We Also Exalt in Our Tribulations

We Also Exalt in Our Tribulations

What?     We should be thankful for our tribulations,  troubles,  and sorrows?     Paul said we should   “exult in our tribulations”.     That’s saying we should jump for joy,  rejoice greatly,  and be jubilant.     In Romans 5:3-5  Paul wrote,

We also exult  in our tribulationsknowing   that tribulation brings about perseverance,  and perseverance,  proven character;  and proven character,  hope;  and hope does not disappoint,  because the love of God  has been poured out  within our hearts  through the Holy Spirit  who was given to us.

If we rarely have problems,  our sinful natures immediately assume  that we’re  mighty good people,  in total control  of our lives,  and we don’t need God  for anything.     We easily  “forget”  to have faith;  we don’t feel we need  to depend  on the Lord;  and we proudly think  we can handle everything  that comes along  all by ourselves.

That is a description  of a godless person,  who makes themselves  and their own puny abilities  into their  “god”.     If we really think  we can get by  being our own  little god  in this world — we are definitely lost  and headed  in the wrong direction  (that would be downward).

Consequently,  when all these horrific trying times come  to us,  we exult.     We exult because  God is taking care of us  in this dangerous  and deceitful world.     With all our tribulations,  our Savior is teaching us  to have perseverance — we see a real need  to stick to our guns  in looking to the LORD  for our needs, so we learn  to persevere.

God won’t quit there.     Our trials continue……. and continue.     With our perseverance  we will develop  a proven character  in God’s eyes.     We will be strengthened  in  holding our ground  in the truth  of who God is  and who we are.     With our strong proven  character  and more trials and tribulations,  we will realize  that God is working within us — and then hope  blossoms out.

That hope is based  on all the proven truths  of God Almighty.     We will see  how He is carrying us  along  all our way.     We put our hope,  faith,  and trust  in the proven love  of God Almighty  because  we can see  how trustworthy He is.     All of this will ensure  that we are  on the road to heaven — our home with God — the home He has prepared  for us.

Knowing the  “love of God”  is caring,  teaching,  and upholding us  in all these tribulations,  we have  so much reason  to exult  in the wisdom,  power,  and faithfulness  of the God of gods towards us.

And so,  we thank God  for knowing us so intimately,  and tenderly strengthening us  in our troubles — because He knows our eternal needs  long before we do,  and helps us so patiently,  even when we don’t understand  what is going on.

Knowing the LORD’s  awesome greatness  and love  towards us,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  there is no way  we can understand  all of Your ways  with us.     But,  we do know  that Your love and faithfulness  are far beyond  our ability to know anything.     We thank and praise You  for Your  saving love  and forgiveness  in Jesus Christ.”
