Which He Lavished Upon Us
God is so overly abundant and generous in forgiving us for all our sins. He just lavishes His forgiveness on us for the sake of Jesus’ suffering and death. Our Lord is not one bit stingy as He willingly and freely forgives us. Ephesians 1:7-8 lays it out for us by saying,
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, which He lavished upon us.
God does not give us “just-a-little-bit” of forgiveness and then demand that we do all sorts of good works to earn the rest of the forgiveness we need. Our Lord’s forgiveness is all “according to the riches of His grace” and the Bible repeatedly tells us God is very rich in His grace. The Bible does not say that God forgives just some of our sins. We have forgiveness of all our sins — whatever they might be or how ever many they might be.
We all need the lavish forgiveness God gives us because of Jesus’ blood shed on the cross. When we put our faith in the redemption we have through Jesus, God Almighty actually makes us perfect in His eyes. Perfect? Very much so. So perfect that when we die, we go straight to glory in heaven — all by faith in God’s truths and promises.
Hebrews 10:14 confirms God’s promise,
For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.
Because Jesus is sinless, He is the perfect Lamb of God, that takes away the sins of the world. It is important to see that Jesus has “perfected for all time” those who trust in Him. That is the lavish forgiveness we can be so thankful for every day of our lives. We don’t have to worry about any sin we might commit tomorrow or a year from now. It has all been redeemed — bought and paid for by the blood of Christ.
That is why we live every day in thanksgiving. Every day we can thank God for the forgiveness He continuously lavishes upon us. We have our ups and downs, our blessings and trials. Through it all, God lavishes His tender love and forgiveness upon us because of our faith in Him. None of it will depend on our good works of any sort. For God so loved the world…….
With thankful hearts we look to God and thank Him for His lavish forgiveness in Jesus Christ. So, in peace and joy, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord, Your power to make us perfect for all time and to forgive all our sins for Jesus’ sake is a love so lavish, we can only spend our lives joyfully serving You. Blessed be Your love.”
Love,
Margaret
