I Have Called You by Your Name

It can be disturbing  to hear someone say,  “Hey you over there,”  or refer to someone as  “what’s-his-face“.    Sometimes to show disdain,  people might refuse  to use a person’s name,  and only refer to “him”  or  “her”,  as they point  with a jerk of the thumb or head.     They intend  to show a total lack  of respect.

Knowing all this,  our LORD,  Creator,  and Redeemer wants us  to find comfort  in how He feels towards us  in our struggles.     In Isaiah 43:1,  God says,

Don’t be afraid,  for  I have  redeemed you.
I have  called you  by your name;  you are Mine.

We do face many troubles and sadnesses  all our lives.     And some of it is a discipline  from the Lord  to help set us back  on the right track.     We do need  to listen  to His discipline  and take it  in the right way,  as from our loving heavenly Father.     But,  in whatever we face,  we don’t have to be afraid.     God may be disciplining us,  but,  He has also redeemed us.     We are safe  in His arms  as we continue  to look to Him  and trust  in His holy love for us.

By faith,  we belong to God  and He has said,  “You are Mine.”     All who put their faith  in Jesus  belong to the Lord.     There are no exceptions  because God keeps His promises.     He is holy and can be trusted  to keep us  as His own dear child,  when we put our faith  in Jesus.

Are we afraid  in the midst  of our troubles?     Do we feel alone and abandoned?     God wants us  to stop being afraid.     He wants us  to get it through our heads  that He has redeemed us  in Jesus Christ.     When we put our faith  in Jesus,  we are definitely a true child  of God.     God accepts us so personally  in all of this vast creation  that He calls us  “by your name”.     We are not a statistic.     We belong to God Almighty,  our Creator and Redeemer.     By the grace of God,  through faith in  Jesus Christ alone,  God says straight to us,  “You are Mine.”

We bear the name Christian — child of God Almighty.     Let us live in joy  because of it.

Known personally by the LORD,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You  for redeeming me  in Jesus Christ  and calling me by name.     And,  it is so good  to take on the name,  Christian,  that everyone may know  that I belong to You,  as Your own dear child.”

Love,
Margaret
