I’ve Carried You Since You Were Born
We have a way of feeling very alone in this world. We might be amongst all sorts of people, and yet, feel alone. We might even feel that God has left us alone. But, that is never true. People might reject us and ostracize us, but God is always faithfully calling us back to Him. God always wants us to turn to Him in all of our needs.
That is what Isaiah was describing in Isaiah 46:3-4, when God was on Israel’s case for spiritually wandering all over the place. There, God says to all of us,
I’ve carried you since you were born and lifted up from the womb. Even when you’re old, I’ll be the same, and when you’re gray, I’ll still carry you. I made you and will continue to bear you. I will carry you and save you.
We wander like silly sheep, always thinking the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. But, it’s not. We are always much better off staying in the Good Shepherd’s tender care. Even though we wander, it is only God Almighty, who keeps us safe.
We get burdened with all sorts of sins, and God reminds us of where we can be forgiven, so we lay our sins on Jesus once again. We get bamboozled by false teachings, and our Lord brings to mind His truths, so we remember and return to God’s word. We get weary with all our troubles, and God comes to comfort and strengthen us, so we have relief. We worry about our future, and God brings to mind His promises in Jesus Christ, so we have hope once again.
God has faithfully been this way with us “since you were born and lifted up from the womb.” We need to take some quiet time with our Lord and think through our lives. Right from our beginning God has been taking care of us. That is a miraculous wonder. We are so prone to wander and get lost in the circus events of this world. All the cheap glitter, gaudy displays, and loud noises of this world so easily distract us from the quiet peace and comforting truths of God’s word.
Bottom line — It’s true. We are faithfully loved by the almighty LORD God, our Savior and King. Isn’t it about time that we settle down and live in the beauty of His word? Everything He has to give us is eternally good. It will never pass away. We will never regret staying close to our LORD and Savior.
The glitter of this world? That is something to be regretted.
As we rejoice in our LORD’s carrying power, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord, thank You for carrying me and keeping me safe from all the dangers in this world. There is such great comfort in the strength of Your almighty arms.”
Love,
Margaret
