Those Who Love Your Salvation
Different people “love” different things. Some literally love their pets more than anything else, others love foods more than anything. Still others love their possessions of various sorts to the point of being totally possessive and selfish. Some love their physical well-being so much that their obsession leads them to fear aging and death. Others will love their work so much that they ignore their health, family and friends. And, there are those who love gambling, drugs, and drinking to the point that they ruin their lives and the lives of those around them.
All of these “loves” and many others are harmful extremes that warp reality and deceive us in various ways. When we place these “loves” above every thing, they become traps that prevent us from realizing the salvation that God is offering to the world in Jesus Christ. Every one of these “loves” is only temporary. They all will fail us sooner or later — or ruin us in short order.
There is one love that balances all of reality — that is our love for the LORD. Our love for the LORD balances everything in life because it faces the truth of our being. We are created beings, created by God Almighty. We are born and we will die. And the truth that most people want to run and hide from is the fact that we are all sinners, doomed to eternal hell because of our sins.
That truth that we want to hide from is usually the reason we allow ourselves to get obsessed with other “loves”. We don’t want to think about our desperate need for a Savior. But, ignoring the truth does not make it go away. God’s truths are eternal. As much as we don’t want to face our sins, confessing them to our Lord and asking for His forgiveness in Jesus Christ is the one thing that frees us. When Jesus Christ frees us from our burden of sin, we experience the wondrous salvation of God.
That is when we learn to love Jesus Christ. We don’t have to always be running away and hiding from our Creator and Judge. We come to see God as our heavenly Father, who has been doing marvelous things for us all along.
As King David meditated on the grace of God’s salvation, his heart was filled with praise and he wanted to share his praise with all God’s children. So, he sang in Psalm 70:4,
May those who love Your salvation always say,
“Let God be exalted!”
Loving the salvation God freely gives us, brings out a joy and praise that exalts God. No more hiding our sins. We are free in Christ Jesus. We are clean — and now we can start living to God’s glory, and say, “Hallelujah! My Savior, the truths of Your salvation are glorious beyond words. You have been working out our salvation since the beginning of time. May we spend the rest of our days truly living for You.”
Love,
Margaret
