A Strong Tower

A Strong Tower
No matter who we are — whether rich or poor — strong or weak — young or old — there are many times throughout our lives when we long for the protection of “a strong tower”. We want and need a place of safety from all the hurts in this world. Nobody honestly finds a real strong tower in riches, physical power, youthful energy, or anything else along these lines. They are all worldly things that fail us sooner or later.
Proverbs 18:10 reveals where we can find an everlasting “strong tower”. It says,
The name of the LORD is a strong tower;
The righteous runs into it and is safe.
A name points out who a person is. The LORD’s name points out that He alone is our Creator, Redeemer, Judge, God of gods, LORD of lords, King of kings, the Almighty, and much more. When we turn to “the name of the LORD”, we are assured of His loving protection and grace to sustain us through all our needs. Our “strong tower” is able to comfort us, deliver us from temptations, protect us from being bamboozled by the world, and much more.
If we don’t go to our “strong tower”, we make ourselves vulnerable to every temptation, stress, burden of sin, false teachings, and all the other misleadings of this world. That is why this proverb stresses that “the righteous runs into it and is safe”. It is only being in “the name of the LORD” that ensures our spiritual safety. Absolutely no one in this world has the strength and wherewithal to withstand all that the world throws at us during a lifetime.
Because it is only our faith in Jesus Christ that makes us righteous in God’s eyes, the proverb says, “the righteous runs into it and is safe”. Those who have faith run to the LORD for the protection they need. In the LORD we are truly safe. The LORD is the only truly “strong tower”, where His love and grace surround us with the protection we need.
In our “strong tower” we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, it is so good to be protected by Your love and grace. Keep us always in Your care. Grant us the desire to remain in You.”
Love,
Margaret
