The Love of the Truth

June 16, 2019

The Love of the Truth

In 2 Thessalonians 2,  Paul talks about the very end days  when Jesus will come  to judge this world.     He speaks  of a great falling away  from the true faith,  and how  “the son of destruction”  will exalt himself  as being God.     Paul describes how this  “lawless one”  will deceive many  with all sorts of power,  signs,  and false wonders.

And then,  in 2 Thessalonians 2:10,  Paul tells us why  certain people will be deceived by this  “lawless one”.     He says it will be…….,

…….because  they did not receive  the love  of the truth  so as to be saved.

They don’t give a hoot  about the truth!     Instead,  they love fooling around  with lies,  deceptions,  false religions,  and wickedness of all sorts.     Because they are so defiant  against God  and the truth of our salvation  in Christ Jesus alone,  God will allow a  “deluding influence”   to fool them into actually believing  what is false — even though they know  “about”  the truth.

They know  “about”  the true salvation offered  in Christ,  but they’re sick and tired  of Godly ways.     Their love  of this world  and all its wickedness is preferred  just because they want to satisfy  their sinful natures.     They despise the goodness  of God’s children,  who love the truth.

God’s children stick  to the truth  because they love God.     They don’t compromise truth  because everyone who compromises the truth  becomes a liar,  like the devil,  who is the father of lies.     In John 8:44,  Jesus describes the devil  by saying,

He was a murderer  from the beginning,  and does not stand  in the truth,  because there is no truth  in him.     Whenever he speaks a lie,  he speaks from his own nature,  for he is a liar,  and the father of lies.

We are told  that as the end of this world approaches,  the hearts of the people will become cold,  and they will no longer love  the truth.     But,  their disregard and despising  of the truth  will condemn them  for all eternity.

That’s something for us  to watch out for.     We can’t make anyone  accept the truth about God and our salvation  in Christ,  but we all need  to watch our own hearts  and minds.     We all need  to consider  what it is  that the world is trying to influence us with.      Does  what the world is teaching us agree  with  what God has taught us  in His eternal word?     If not,  we need  to be careful  that we are not deceived  by the lies of this world.

We don’t want  to regret any foolishness  of ours  for all eternity.

Strengthening ourselves  in the truths of God’s word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  Your goodness and love  down through the ages  is so marvelous beyond words.     You have proven Your righteousness,  power,  and authority.     Keep us safe  in the truths  of Your word.”
