When we do things together,  we are able  to strengthen and encourage one another — to support each other  in doing what is right and good  in God’s eyes.      Together, one in spirit with God’s word,  we help each other  in our journey of faith  to our home in heaven.     When we think about it,  the world puts more efforts  into sticking together  to defy God,  than Christians put forth  in sticking to the truth.     Instead of weakly allowing ourselves  to be overcome  by the evil influences  of this world,  God’s word tells us to  “strive together”.     Philippians 1:27  says,

Only conduct yourselves  in a manner worthy  of the gospel of Christ;  so that whether I come and see you  or remain absent,  I may hear of you  that you are  standing firm  in one spiritwith one mind   striving together  for the faith  of the gospel.

Our whole purpose in  “standing firm in one spirit”  is so that we will be enabled  to live  “in a manner worthy  of the gospel  of Christ.”     Note that Paul says we need  to be  “with one mind striving together.”     We need  to agree together,  in our minds,  about the truths God’s word presents to us  and about our salvation  in Christ alone.     And,  if  we are not of  “one spirit”  together,  we cannot be united  in the one true faith.

If we mingle only with worldly people  and their activities  day after day,  we could be  allowing them  to influence us  in ungodly ways.     They deliberately take us away from the truths about God  and our salvation  in Christ alone.     We aren’t giving ourselves a chance  to grow in faith,  hope,  and love,  if we don’t mingle  with like-minded Christians.

When Paul had yearnings  that the church would  remain in the truth  and grow in the truth,  he wrote  in Colossians 2:2,

That their hearts may be encouraged,  having been knit together in love  and attaining  to all the wealth  that comes from  the full assurance of understanding,  resulting in a true knowledge  of God’s mystery,  that is,  Christ Himself.

If  we allow only the world  to mold our thinking,  we can only end up  with the emptiness  of its pretentious knowledge and claims.     When we cling to the world,  we are clinging to lies.     Those lies will never allow us  to gain a true knowledge  of the glory of Christ Jesus.     There is no real “life” for us  if we don’t have any truth  within us.     We become a hindrance  to ourselves and everyone else around us.     So, we need to be  “knit together”  in the love  of God Almighty.      When  “knit together  in love”  with Christ  in God’s word,  we are blessed  with a true understanding and knowledge  of what God has done for us  in Christ.

Our togetherness has a purpose  as Paul states  in 1 Thessalonians 5:9-11,

For God has  not  destined us for wrath,  but for obtaining salvation  through our Lord Jesus Christ,  who died for us,  that whether we are awake or asleep,  we may  live together  with Him.

Therefore encourage one another,  and build up one another,  just as you also are doing.

No matter where we are  in our life’s journey,  we need to  live together  with Christ Jesus  as our Lord and Savior.     When we are united  with our Lord,  we are united together  with all true Christians.     Then we can say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  it is so good to abide in You  and to have You abide in us.     Only You can open our eyes,  ears,  hearts  and minds  to know You in the right way.     All glory belongs to You.”
