A Lamb Standing as If Slain

A Lamb Standing as If Slain

When the book of Revelation,  chapter 5 describes Jesus,  all-glorious,  in heaven,  it says things like:  the Lion that is  from the tribe of Judah,  the Root of David” verse 5.      That pictures the sustaining power  and the eternal source  of all things.      It has the sound of grandeur and kingship,  exactly what it is meant  to portray  to us.

And then,  it goes on  to describe Jesus  as “a Lamb standing,  as if slain”,  verse 6.      Whoa!      A slain lamb cannot stand,  but Jesus,  the Lamb of God,  is standing  in all His holiness and power.      Jesus meekly had allowed Himself  to be spit upon,  tortured,  and killed — all for the sake  of paying  for our sins.      When Jesus let them beat His head  and crown Him with thorns,  it was not because He was weak  and helpless.      It was not because He was everyone’s doormat.

It is holy,  almighty power  that gives Jesus the ability  to endure the mockery and insults  of mere men,  who have no real power  over anything.      We cannot control anything  that happens  in our future.      Even tornadoes and earthquakes prove that  to us.      But,  Jesus has the holiness,  strength,  and purity  to prove His love.

Today,  many are too ashamed  to talk about Jesus being our Savior  from sin.      They don’t want to talk  about the gore and ugliness  that paid  for their sins.      But,  Jesus is not ashamed  to meekly and openly display  all His wounds  on our behalf — quietly showing us  His almighty power  to forgive — and telling us  to believe.

While displaying His wounds  to doubting Thomas,  in John 20:29,  Jesus told Thomas and us,

Because you have seen Me,  have you believed?      Blessed are they  who did not see,  and yet believed.

Jesus is keeping His wounds  as an eternal witness.      He is alive and standing  in all His glorious power  over death,  sin,  and the devil.      In His power  He shows His wounds.      They are real and they are for us.      They are an eternal witness  of His love and forgiveness — something we can always find comfort in,  because it means  we are loved.

We don’t have anything  to be ashamed of  in Jesus Christ.      He is risen  in all glory.      If anything,  we should be ashamed of our fears  and unbelief.      It is our sins holding us down.

And so,  Jesus shows Himself  in glory  to all of heaven  as “a Lamb standing,  as if slain”.      And, when He does,  everyone in heaven worships and praises Him.  (Revelation 5:8-14)      Will we be among them?

We need to understand  what real power — eternal power  and love — are all about.      When we see it  in Jesus  (the one and only place it can ever be found),  we will fall down  in true praise and worship,  as we ought.

Then we say,  “Hallelujah!      Lord Jesus,  You are the victorious Lamb slain  for the sins of the world.      In Your victory,  You show us  that the forgiveness You offer is real — and You really do want us  to accept it  in the love  with which You have given it.”

Love,
Margaret
