What We Shall Be

What We Shall Be
It’s the age-old question: What are you going to be when you grow up? Kids will answer: A baseball player — doctor — astronaut — policeman……. And their choices often change over the years. But, what are we going to be when we really, really grow up and reach our heavenly home? We won’t be angels, though we’ll be like them in some ways. 1 John 3:2 gives us a hint to this mystery,
Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we shall be. We know that, when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him just as He is.
We are not told in God’s word exactly what we will be like — except that, “we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him just as He is.” What can that mean? Jesus teaches us in Luke 6:40,
A pupil is not above his teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher.
Besides being our LORD, God, Redeemer, Savior, King, our All-in-all, Jesus is also our Teacher. He has greater things to teach us than we can imagine. As our Example, He teaches us love, meekness, holiness, faithfulness, trustworthiness, righteousness, and so much more. In all those ways we will be like Him, when He appears. We will be “like” our Teacher — but, we’ll never be “above” our Teacher. He alone is LORD and God over all — the one and only true God.
Right now, in this world, we are so easily distracted with all our worldly concerns. We don’t fully realize all that Christ is and can be in our lives today. But, we have something really marvelous and great to look forward to, as we keep on looking to our Savior in faith, hope, and love. All of our sins will be gone forever — and we will be perfected in all holiness — truly able to serve our Lord in heaven without sinning any more. What a great day that will be!
Looking forward to our hope for eternal life, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord, what a glorious rest it will be when we can be totally free from our inclinations to sin, and get to see You just as You are, in all Your glory.”
Love,
Margaret
