I Will Sing for Joy
This world is facing so many tests and trials right now, that many people are really “down-in-the-mouth” about life in general. Many will concentrate on all the corruption, lying, murdering, stealing, rape, dishonest politicians, natural disasters, foreign threats, etc., etc., etc., to the point where they become totally disheartened and depressed. All of these evils and disasters really are so devastating.
It just seems like there is no longer any reason for joy or hope of any sort. Where will all this end? It all seems so senseless.
History tells us that all these things have been going on since the Fall. But, through all this time, God is still God — the LORD and Creator of all things, our Savior and Redeemer. We need to look at the bigger picture and remember how through all this, God has kept His promise of a Savior. With that truth in mind, we need to acknowledge that our Lord is fully capable of keeping His promise of a Judgment Day.
During all these times, we have a powerful witness all around us. We need to pay attention to God’s witness in all the awesomeness of His creation. There is nothing like it. No one can duplicate God’s creation. It’s witness powerfully demonstrates that God is in control and will keep His promises. Years ago, a psalmist realized the power of God’s witness all around us every day. In spite of the challenges he faced, he had to tell of the LORD’s almighty power and control. In Psalm 92:1-9, we can meditate on all that God has done,
It is good to give thanks to the LORD,
And to sing praises to Thy name, O Most High;
To declare Thy lovingkindness in the morning,
And Thy faithfulness by night,
With the ten-stringed lute, and with the harp;
With resounding music upon the lyre.
For Thou, O LORD, hast made me glad by what Thou hast done,
I will sing for joy at the works of Thy hands.How great are Thy works, O LORD!
Thy thoughts are very deep.
A senseless man has no knowledge;
Nor does a stupid man understand this:
That when the wicked sprouted up like grass,
And all who did iniquity flourished,
It was only that they might be destroyed forevermore.
But Thou, O LORD, art on high forever.
For, behold, Thine enemies, O LORD,
For, behold, Thine enemies will perish;
All who do iniquity will be scattered.
There are so many truths and consolations in this Psalm. Yes, we need to realize the utter wickedness of this world. But, we also need to realize that God is in control. All things will work for the good of those who love the Lord. And, the wicked surely will “be destroyed forevermore.”
Knowing that all things are in God’s hands, God’s children down through the ages have entrusted their souls to the Lord. We, too, are to keep our minds on what God has done and what He has promised to do. When we open our eyes to all that is in this creation, and the keeping of all God’s promises of a Savior in His word, we need to know for sure that all things will, indeed, work for the good of those who love the Lord. God alone has worked all of this.
In that obvious truth, “I will sing for joy at the works of Thy hands.”
As we look to God and sing, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord, You have proven Yourself over and over. Keep my eyes, ears, heart, and mind always open to Your witness.”
Love,
Margaret
