For Thou Art My God
Psalm 143:10
Teach me to do Thy will,
For Thou art my God;
Let Thy good Spirit lead me on level ground.
King David was praying this prayer for deliverance and guidance because he felt overwhelmed by the tactics of his enemies. He remembered God’s faithfulness in the past and how he had always loved to meditate on God’s word throughout his life. In the past, God had always led him to live according to God’s words. That had always been a great comfort to David.
Now the enemy was again doing its thing, and David wanted to react in a God-pleasing manner. David did not want to sin while dealing with his enemy. He needed God’s guidance and asked the LORD to teach him. Then, he reminded God why it would be good for the Lord to teach him once again — “For Thou art my God.”
That is a good reason.
David had not served idols, riches, or anything else in this world. He always went to the Lord with his prayers, praises, and thanksgivings. There is no other real lord or god with any power or authority worth paying attention to. The LORD is the one and only true God. And David always honored the Lord and trusted in His word.
So, David is reminding God of these truths as a good reason for leading David in God’s will. We, too, need to remind our Lord that it is good for us to live in His will — just because He is LORD and God over all. He always has been LORD and God — and He always will be LORD and God. Then, we need to ask God to lead us in His will, so that all we do will glorify the Lord, as is only right and good.
As we serve God with our whole hearts, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, in Your grace and mercy, You are always willing to lead us in Your good will. Open our eyes, ears, hearts, and minds to understand and accept the wisdom of Your word to us.”
Love,
Margaret
