My Heart May Fail

My Heart May Fail

The longer we live,  the more memories we have.     We want the best  for our children and grandchildren,  but sadly consider all the growing evils taking place  in this world.      We’ve seen how proud,  evil people  seem to have all sorts of successes.     It seems  that they get away with mocking God all the time  and with all sorts wicked plans.     It’s hard to understand  because it’s just not right or good.

One who knows the goodness and salvation of God  can get to feeling cut to the core — and totally helpless.     As troubled as we are  about those who seem  to successfully mock the Lord,  we do need to realize  that they are in the process  of bringing more and more condemnation   upon themselves.     It may appear that they are getting away  with their evils,  but God has everything in control.     Our Lord has foretold  how in the end times  the hearts of the people will be cold and full of evil.     These people have had many opportunities  to hear and accept  the word of God,  but they arrogantly refuse — preferring their wickedness  to the love of God  in Jesus Christ.

As we think about this conundrum,  we know that all the implications of it  are far beyond our understanding.     We have to leave everything  in God’s hands.     We are different  from the rest of the world,  but we have the joy of knowing we are saved  by the eternal love of God  in Jesus Christ.

That is why we can rest our disturbed hearts  in the wisdom and power  of God Almighty,  and say with the psalmist  in Psalm 73:25-28,

Whom have I in heaven  but Thee?
And besides Thee,  I desire nothing  on earth.
My flesh and my heart may fail;
But God is the strength  of my heart  and my portion forever.
For, behold,  those who are far from Thee  will perish;
Thou hast destroyed all those  who are unfaithful to Thee.
But as for me,  the nearness of God  is my good;
I have made the Lord GOD  my refuge,
That I may tell  of all Thy works.

Having God in our hearts, we have everything.     In this world,  we will see all sorts of evil, suffer and die — but, that doesn’t matter  because we inherit all of heaven  and the salvation we have in Christ.     Yes,  the unbelievers are an awful prick  in this world,  but they will perish when God cuts them off.     God has promised  that they will all be destroyed — and He keeps His promises.

In the meantime, we don’t have to be all “hot under the collar”.     God is near to us  and He is our sure refuge.     Knowing the power and authority of God — along with all that He has done for us  in Christ Jesus — we can go right ahead and “tell of all Thy works.”     People need to know  that God is in control of all things — even though the majority of people  in this world  “roll their eyes”  at the very thought  of God being in control.

In all our weakness,  we may feel  that “my heart may fail”,  but that doesn’t matter.     We are with our Lord.     His strength is more than sufficient.     With God’s sufficiency,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  you know us so well.     Thank You for protecting us  in all of our weaknesses.”

Love,
Margaret
